To all the people complaining about privacy and notifications and Messenger isn’t a dating app.... Simple solution, USE THE SETTINGS!! Set it up to not automatically login when you open the app. Set it up to not accept requests from strangers, that means on Facebook also. Set your privacy to friends only on Facebook, NOT PUBLIC!! Set up groups for your friends list, meaning 1 for family and 1 for friends and 1 for game friends etc and then set separate notifications for each. Set up the Do Not Disturb option on your device for evenings, only allowing family members etc to go through. But stop blaming an app that you’re not using properly!! Don’t want people contacting you for a hookup, then change your privacy settings to FRIENDS ONLY!! Not friends of friends and absolutely not PUBLIC. This app has all the safety and privacy settings you could want, all you need to do is actually use them!
I am so sick and tired of this.. Randomly, after using the app over and over again, I’ll get signed out.. Then after I sign back in, I have to set my preferences again?? That makes no sense.. why do I always have to turn dark mode back on and turn off my status?? Bullsh*t.. is it that hard to fix that glitch?? I don’t know but another thing I always have to endure is when I open the messenger app, it always automatically opens the chat from the last person that messages me, forcing me to respond right away when I was meaning to answer another chat!! Ridiculous!! Why does it do that?? That is irritating and NOT CONVENIENT!! I should be able to choose wether or not I want messages auto opened, but then again I would have to reset all my preferences when I get signed out again, but that’s still better than the app choosing to auto open my messages for me.. also I have no way to get to the messages that don’t make it through, like junk mail.. Sometimes the button is there but mostly it’s not.. I never see the changes that are made every two weeks but these issues have yet to be resolved.. It’s becoming a hassle to use the messenger app and easier to just give my number out.. And how do I stop game messages from appearing in my inbox?? It’s so annoying and makes me LESS LIKELY to play the game.. I want to opt out of receiving these messages, especially since I don’t play the games!! Please make a useful update and stop moving buttons around..
Facebooks messenger app is a pointless application—everyone already has free text messaging and pays for cell phone service, so why create a new application (for things like virtual yard sale) and ask for permissions to text and call? I find it absolutely absurd that I have to download an app to view messages from a web based platform. (No I DO NOT have the FB app, thank you.). Not only that but the two rarely communicate efficiently. After you check messages in the app, FB profile will still show a messages notification. On top of that every time you use it asks for notifications to be turned on (why? When FB should be notifying you?) and asking for permission for microphone and camera. The app drains battery power when you do have notifications turned on especially in group chats—pinging every time there is a new comment. I’m not sure what a good use for this app is—it should be reintegrated back into Facebook and allow users to check messages from the web based platform.
Most of the people I’ve seen have just been complaining so I’m going to try and make this review at least a little helpful. This new update has so much wasted space. Just yesterday the formatting was pretty much perfect from a design standpoint, but now there is so much unused white space at the top of the screen. Even just the word “Chats” takes up so much unnecessary space which previously encompassed everything that wasn’t actual chats (like stories and your profile info. The previous design was perfectly fine and there was no need to change it, and changing your design completely won’t make a significant number of people suddenly decide to download the app. If nothing else, give everyone the option to go back to the previous version. As a lover of web design, I know white space can be useful, but it can be extremely harmful if there is too much unused space, and that is exactly what happened. You messed up with this one, but there’s still an opportunity to fix it, or at least canter to those who know this is bad design.
The interface was perfect. I could press and instantly send cute stickers to my mother who is across the globe. Now what? I tap and it’s a voice messaging thing. WHAT WAS BAD ABOUT THE PREVIOUS VERSION? Can you make it a choice that it’s stickers in the box or a mic for someone who needs it? I rarely use voice messages but I always use stickers. PLEASE MAKE THIS OPTIONAL. Also how do i share my location now? The plus button is just stickers and gifs now? What about all the other games and add-ons??? ALSO WHEN I CHOOSE TO SEND PHOTOS, I CANNOT OPEN MY ALBUMS? How do I send some image from an album now? It’s not in my recent images so what do I do? Pressing on “photos” doesn’t work. Both me and my mom are disappointed that you guys made it harder for me and my mother to communicate with the stickers. I need the old version where stickers don’t take up the entire screen and where i can access them on the right of the message box. If I could put 0 stars I would. How do I go back to the old version? If you guys won’t make changes I’m deleting the app and moving to telegram or viber.
