Freeplay - Fitness for Friends

I was paying 3x the Freeplay rate per month to visit my favorite gym, now I can still go to my preferred gym, with the same unlimited classes for sooooo much less! While I was already on a regular fitness routine, it did cause my friends to get motivated and join as well with the Freeplay group membership options. Regarding the app itself, I don’t really find the “playlist” feature all that useful, it is unclear to me the intended usability as it doesn’t actually book or sign you up for these classes. I know you can use it as a way to invite friends to the classes you’re going to, but I haven’t seen the value add there. Overall it is an awesome membership, money saving and fun options, well designed app, and I am thrilled to be on the team Freeplay! — Side note to Freeplay employees who happen to read this review, if Freeplay adds more partner gyms north of SLC, around Ogden, I know I could get a good amount of other family/friends to sign up! ;)

Freeplay is an AMAZING company!! The customer service is exceptional, and they truly do take care of their members. Working out becomes so much more exciting and allows me to change things up and stay engaged in different activities I love! I will never join another gym membership, Freeplay is by far the best fit for my lifestyle. The app is set up very conveniently to find new activities and is easy to check in at each location. Before I signed up I was a little skeptical, it seemed too good to be true, but I've been nothing but impressed since joining. I have truly had an amazing experience!

Their system works like this: Pay a monthly fee of $30 a month and you can visit each represented venue ONCE a month. So from what I understand you couldn’t go to anytime fitness as much as you want so if this is your go to gym or whatever just get a pass there. (Included is 1 buddy pass per month) For $50 a month you can visit each of their represented venues 3 times a month included is 2 buddy passes per month. For a whopping $80 a month you get 5 visits to each venue per month. If you like axe throwing and stuff like that this might be worth the price because there are quite a few venues but if you are looking to get a discount on gym use using this app just get a pass from the gym because it will cost you far less for unlimited access. (This pass also includes unlimited access to elite partners, I couldn’t find a list online but there is one in the app) (This pass also includes 3 buddy passes a month.) If I get unsolicited emails or phone calls by being forced to enter my phone number and email I’ll be bumping this rating down to a 1. As it stands this could be good but it isn’t for me at this time in my life. Maybe in the future.

I love the idea of Freeplay! Loved it so much that I signed my whole family up for a plan. The idea gets 5 stars. The execution, the actual app itself gets a 3 or worse. Only one admin is allowed on the account so my partner can’t take my kids (who are also on the account) to the climbing gym without me. I have to be there to check them in because I’m the only one with admin rights that can do a group check in. My kids don’t have devices so it’s not like they can check themselves in. When I called Freeplay about this they didn’t have a solution for me. They simply said they see why it’s a problem but don’t have a fix for this in the near future. Disappointed that I don’t really get to use my membership fully. And don’t even get me started about the buddy passes...

I just tried to book my first class. I added a reformer Pilates class to my “playlist”. Just so everyone is clear, this does NOT sign you up for the class. I called the studio bc that class is usually full and I was surprised to be able to add it. They said that you are NOT adding yourself to the class, the class IS full, and they don’t even allow people to book reformer classes with freeplay. Also, my freeplay app shows only 2 classes for tomorrow (1 which is not allowed through freeplay), but there are actually 3 other classes available. I’m really disappointed that I have to call the gym each time I want to go and make sure they have space in the classes. I would check with the studios before heading in to a class!
