Wahoo ELEMNT Companion

Once you learn how to use it, it is reliable and it lasts. It took me about 3 days to figure out the possibilities of the app and it took me the same amount of time to figure out how to use a Mac OS for the very first time! You get the most of the app when you connect it to other apps like your Strava, komoot and the likes. It does sync to your accounts. You get even more out of the app when you master some 70 options you might want to record during your ride. I have three pages to go through to make it easy going through them during the ride. I don’t trust the ‘take me to’ feature and the reverse. The sensors are also fidgety and sometimes the GPS signal is lost without any feedback. I strongly believe Wahoo needs to dip into human computer interaction research and design to improve the experience.

I had been recommended the Wahoo Bolt having recently taken up cycling after a lengthy break. I love data and seeing how I was performing on weekly rides. However, at first I thought I was just struggling with this device and App due to being a newbie and thought I would soon get used to it and iron out the issues. A month or so later and I am still having issues on every ride. Speed and Cadence sensors dropping out constantly, maps freezing and requiring a full restart and not to mention the constant loss of connection between my iPhone X and the wahoo bolt. The app seems so glitchy and never maintains a steady connection to the device. After rides i’m having to try and re-sync everything just so that I can view my ride and sync to Strava. Really hoping there are some major updates to this app which sort all of this. If not I will be requesting a replacement bolt from Wahoo as I cannot live with the constant drop in connection and glitches.

Update... I found another app that looks great - not as much info but seriously tempted by under armour. Since the update while they’ve made a good attempt at trying to give more information, wahoo has sadly chosen a RUBBISH view of the data. I spent good money on the gadget & loved the connectivity between the app & gadget. Now I’m looking for other options. I loved what you were doing here & I get the drive to improve so here’s looking at the next update.... all the best guys. Would love to stick with this! ====== I love that you guys are developing the app & seriously love the unit (except GPS is slow [should give an advance warning maybe 5s?] - it tells you *once you’ve turned that you’ve made the turn...!?) However, what was a great presentation of information in the iPhone app has now not only been reduced to those who don’t need glasses to read it, you can’t easily get a great overview of your data! The instant easy comparison of information has been reduced to having to scroll screens to compare. The bars were great because you could compare. Now...? While seemingly more data available, it’s just the same as before but harder to read. Now you have to try make sense of what you’re reading rather than see it all in a glimpse & choose what to look into at a deeper level.

The app and the Elemnt are great at what they do. My experience with Garmin is that loads of features are no good if the device crashes all the time. No such problems with the Elemnt. However, product updates seem to have slowed to just bug fixes now, and the inability to plan a route using the “Take me to...” feature in the app, or pan around the map using the device, or even just navigate with North pointing up, are frustrating. If Garmin with its stability issues sorted out would be appealing, as are Lezynes new devices.

I can’t tell you how frustrated you will become trying to used this app in and attempt to get routes to your wahoo. I have lost a significant amount of hours trying to get routes onto wahoos only to dust off the Garmin and achieve instant success. It will tell and show you it’s connected to the WiFi network but your routes won’t sync. Just last week I was attempting yet again to load some routes onto the device (naturally it wasn’t) then 30 minuets later with everything seemingly the same the routes loaded including 2 routes which I tried to upload over a month ago which were no longer on a synced account or on the app! Where were they until now? Should you choose this route good luck!
