This app has helped get me out more , explore routes and our amazing countryside in Northern Ireland. The routes are there to download and they give a great description of what to expect plus some has photos too. I love maps and old town lands names the OS map is amazing for plotting out a walk and calculating times. Used with a weather map you can plan an amazing day out a day to see things when don’t normally see when driving. This has helped me with some depression issues , walking truly is good for the heart and mind , thank you to all involved with the development of this app

For me, it’s almost worth getting a smartphone just for this app. I use it all the time when hiking in the uk and overseas. The ability to download premium (eg OS) and open (eg open cycle map) maps for offline use is a real bonus. I never get lost and once it almost literally saved my life when I couldn’t find the correct way by eye or paper map down a ridge on Ascension Island. It has slick GPX file import/export features which are excellent and easy to use. The skyline feature also is quite useful but does seem to use a lot of processing power and can be a bit slow on older devices. The only reason for not giving this app 5 stars is the fact that it doesn’t display mile flags on routes and tracks which most other mapping apps (eg Walkmeter, Outdoors GPS and the OS app) do.

I use view ranger every day in my work as a forestry wildlife ranger and find it very useful as lots of the area I work have no phone signal ! Very useful to find small gaps in forest where I can get down with carcasses and navigate to certain points which is why I asked about changing colour of cross from black as difficult to see with these type of screens on dark forest areas ! I use an I phone 8 plus and an I pad 5 which work well with your system !keep up the good app ! Alaister

I've had this app for 2 years now and have used it for walking, often National Trail long distance treks. It is so easy to use and is indispensable. Have used it in France a few times too. I use the 1:25,000 maps on my iPhone 5s. Far better than any Garmin.

App makes no use of the phone’s barometer (50x) more accurate for elevation changes than GPS altitude. Basic map display is ok, shows where you are now, but you’d expect that. Current GPS accuracy is important and not shown. Choosing map to display is a faff eg 25k map versus 250k. Updates seem mostly focused on social media rather than effective navigation. It’s a shame as there is a need for an app focused on the needs of navigating in a non-street environment.
