Vanguard for iPad

Two years ago, my wife and I decided to move our funds from an account at FSC where they had been positioned by a greedy financial advisor from Mooresville, NC. Unfortunately, some of our investments at FSC were in REITs which Vanguard could not hold. So those securities bounced back and ended up back at FSC but in a closed account. Today, I had the assistance of Wana Azizi, in the concierge team, assist me in the final liquidation and transfer of the residual securities at FSC. She placed the necessary calls and conferenced me in so this could happen. We had an incredible run around and finally were connected with "Jack of all trades". He reluctantly sold my shares of stock reminding me that HE would not get the Commision on that trade. We thought about sending him some Christmas cookies. Wana fabulously maintained her cool demeanor even when he mansplained me to let him finish after he had asked me a question. Without her help, this transaction would never have occurred. I would have been intimidated on the first call and quit without the success she was able to accomplish. In my opinion, Wana Azizi deserves a raise or at least the commission that my poor advisor is now going to receive.

On the menu column on the left of the app there are all sorts of choices; check your balance, check your fund performance, shop for other funds - but there is no selection to easily transfer funds into your Vangard account. You end up hunting all over the app and finally by going to “contact us” you can finally make your bank transfer. Could we please just add a button on the left so that we can easily make our random deposits into our Vanguard account? I would think this function would be just as important as checking the balance and all the other options listed on the sidebar. But it’s not there. Of a good design until it is there. Okay; I found the tiny red letters under balance and holdings; you click on that. Once you know it is there, it is easy. Some of us simple folk need big print and big obvious buttons. Problem solved though.

Actually easier to research and do work in app vs. on their website for me. Would like to see some more features like live notices of stocks reaching certain thresholds to trigger trade review. Would like to see separate purchases of stocks and purchase date history available when clicking on stock in portfolio vs. have to dig through all transaction history. Would like more news feeds and information regarding stocks dividend histories to make better purchase decisions prior to buying. Would like to see an easy breakdown by stock in the portfolio manager of appreciation in value of stock as well as dividends paid since purchase to get a better idea of total value of ownership of dividends are not directly reinvested in the stock.

While their investment offerings are top of the line the technology is woefully inadequate. Maybe I shouldn’t complain because they finally combined the securities and mutual funds together (the fact that they were separate speaks volumes). The app if completely inferior to both Charles Schwab and Fidelity (yes I use both). They have bugs in the app that is now going on a month and they still can’t fix it after I notified them of the problem (I am a Flagship Select customer). If this problem can’t be fixed what else is wrong with the app.... Also if they actually cared about their customers they wouldn’t remove the debit card option after a decade. What is the next service that they will remove if it doesn’t achieve their targets. I thought using a firm like Vanguard that is “client owned” wouldn’t leave their clients on the curb. Prove to us Vanguard that you can do better

I just have to say that this app is absolutely horrible for anything other than checking balances. Here are a few things that I’ve tried to do with frustration on this app. 1. Tried to move money into a money market fund to another fund. - This doesn’t seem to be possible as it keeps redirecting me to varying buy/sell pages. Then when I hit cancel, it asks me multiple times If it’s sure I want to cancel. YES that’s why I hit cancel. 2. You cannot in any way compose a message to send to Vanguard. It will error out with no helpful information. 3. If you do anything at all in terms of interfacing with another app, you will have to resign in. This wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t lose your session completely including your entire message you were trying to send (but can’t) 4. You have to enter in your full password at some parts of the app despite having fingerprint authentication enabled? My password is like 20 characters long, this is why I have fingerprint enabled. Making me enter my full password to send you a message but not to transfer funds is just completely idiotic. As you can tell I’m frustrated.
