STARSS: News Reader

I’m usually not one for using RSS readers, but when I chanced upon this app while looking for a Star Trek chess app (no luck) I gave it a go. On top of being able to gather Star Trek and pop culture news stories with it, I find myself opening the app just to play with the buttons. Growing up on TNG, DS9, and Voyager I’ve always wanted an LCARS interface for my iPhone and while this is just a single app it is a brilliant recreation of an LCARS panel. Layout, sound, color scheme are all spot on. If this design were adapted to other apps like calendar, calculator, phone, text messaging, etc., I would grab them all, free or not. Christopher Kriens, I love this app.

I was just looking for any kind of Star Trek interface when I found this. Once I started using it I found out it was really fun just to play with the buttons. I’ve watched all the show and I am happy that I can play with an app that looks similar to the interface within those shows, plus I can use it to catch up on news which is great.

This is a very well designed, well thought-out app. It combines the nostalgia of older Star Trek series’ with a customizable feed of current events and publications. Most similar apps just provide the aesthetic of a Star Trek console but this one adds real functionally. I feel like I’ve truly entered the 24th century. Thank you so much!

Such a beautiful and well made PADD experience.. fluid and easy to use, and the small touches like the sound effects and red alert function, weapons sounds and also the moving scanner screen all make it a beautiful and quite useful news app!! Thank you!!

My day wouldn't be as enjoyable or complete without this near perfect app. I've been using it for months, and during that time I've checked out competitors without finding anything else that comes close to providing the same ease of use or dependability.
