Smart Dash Cam

This app does exactly what it claims. Video quality is good. Has some shake but otherwise clear. The only problem I have is that on my iPhone 8’s, after about 20 minutes, the phone is so hot the phone shuts down. That is in an air conditioned pick-up truck. It could not be used continuously even on short trips. Update: I installed this on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and used it all day with no problems. I was driving a total of probably 2 hours off and on and the Galaxy never even felt warm. I was in the same truck using the same mount as with the iPhone mentioned above and the outside temps were about the same. So, obviously there is an issue with the program on the iPhone not necessarily with the program itself. I really like the program on the Galaxy. Oh, and by the way, there is no shake with the Galaxy because the camera has image stabilization. You can see the dash shake but the image is rock solid.

I use this on my 2016 Wrangler with a Rugged Ridge dash mount and it works great. I thought there was a problem with it at first because it would fill up the 1 gig space I had allotted. Turns out that if you have “lock video on impact” turned on in settings, and have a low impact setting, every bump and jolt will lock the video loop and start another. When you use up the space you have allotted, the oldest videos will not automatically delete, as they should, because they have been “locked due to impact”. I just turned “lock on impact” off entirely and have had zero issues since.

This app is stellar! The full version is fantastic! This speedometer on the screen while you’re driving and recording is large enough to read, you can also set speed limit alerts. The loop recording is perfect. Also a great way to repurpose an old phone if you’re upgrading so long as you have iOS capability and all you have to download and place on dashboard no need to buy expensive dash cams and go through complicated wiring. Fantastic work DashCam team and thank you for this wonderful app. Side note - I have captured some incredible sunrises and sunsets from my Dash Cam as well.

The videos are super choppy. I’m using an iPhone 6+. 720p 60fps is the quality setting. When it’s live recording everything is fine. But watching videos that have been recorded is horrible. Choppy as heck. No clue why. I even bought the app (in app purchase) and that didn’t help. Once the playback problem is fixed. I’ll give the app 5 stars. Edit; So I found out why the video play back is choppy. The iPhone 6+ does 1080p 60fps. The app only goes up to 720p 60fps. But that isn’t an option for the iPhone 6+ video camera. To fix the bad playback. You would need to add support for 1080p 60fps. Which would solve playback issues for a lot of people who have that problem.

I usually do not purchase apps because you know, I’m a poor college student (cliche but true.) but I bought this one without hesitation. This app is FANTASTIC!! I downloaded the free version yesterday that I was on a road trip. After using the free version for 5 hours on the road, I reviewed the video quality, the map accuracy, sound quality, speed accuracy, and everything was just right. Though I could have still used the free version just fine, I decided to buy it to support the developers. Great job guys keep it up!!
