Protect Scotland

Downloaded after thoroughly looking through the security settings. It doesn’t have a long or expansive data form to fill in once downloaded. Though it does need the latest iOS update which may be a problem for older phones no longer supported by Apple updates. Hopefully it’s one app I never get a notification from, but I'm sure it will play an important part of monitoring contacts who you can’t put names to, in places like shops and on public transport.

I’ll keep this short; everyone should be downloading this app. It’s easy to use and set up. For the tiny amount of space and data that is used by it, we can help understand the spread of this virus as well as future instances of similar things, just by having it on our mobile devices. The possibilities are endless. Especially in a small country like Scotland. As a Computer Science student, I was curious about the data that may be collected but I can find no reason not to have this on your phone... especially if you trust things like Facebook, which, well, let’s not get into that here... Ok, not so short, but go get the app anyway and let’s get on with our lives!

Hi folks, great to see this app finally here, could not come soon enough. One bit of feedback; i was struck by the lack of a call to action to share the app once I’d finished setting it up. It seems like such a natural thing to get people to do. Download the app, set it up, not tell your friends. This is only going to work if a significant proportion of people install the app and that nice mostly empty “you’re done” screen is crying out for a set of facebook/whats app/insta etc buttons to help get it moving. There is a golden opportunity whilst the app is in the press to get people to refer. Please don't waste it.

IOS 13.7 update specifically notifies you if you’ve been at close range to a COVID case. On your iPhone under General you get a new setting “Exposure Notifications”. Click this: if you live in Scotland your Active Region is Protect-Scot. But if you get a positive COVID-19 diagnosis you need to share this in the Protect-Scot app. This keeps others safe. It won’t disclose your identity.

Simple, you don’t even sign up no name date of birth or email, nothing. Download the app, have it running in the background it uses Apple and Google’s software for security and reliability. So far so good. Nice design for the app, informative, much better than the joke of an app Bojo and his cronies tried to force to work. Stay safe folks, get this app, nobody wants another lockdown.
