Histology Lite - SecondLook

The entire SecondLook app series takes an efficient and effective approach towards topic study and review. Topics are comprehensive enough to provide confidence that the major teaching points are being touched upon, but concise enough to allow for rapid review. The Question-Answer format truly helps enhance learning. The Q&A is well-written and thoughtful, and follow a logical progression with each Question building upon the last as the slides walk the user through a given topic. Working through the App feels similar to reading Dubin’s “Rapid Interpretation of EKGs” in that the Q&A format guides the user through the slides and is much more approachable than reading dense, didactic paragraphs. Images are beautiful and high resolution, and are well annotated to emphasize teaching points. The color-coded image annotations allow for ample information to be packed into every slide without feeling overwhelming.

Many students are still far too often left to fend for themselves in medical curriculum with subpar resources. This is especially visible in courses where students have to interpret novel data ambiguous to novice learners, usually in the form of anatomical structures, radiological images, etc. This app bridges that gap for histology. It is unique in that it gives us immediate feedback, directly on the histological image itself. We don't have to read a paragraph that's referenced at a remote location and wonder if we're interpreting someone's prose correctly in the image. Short of an actual living breathing instructor next to you, this is the next best thing. App is simple to use, and is one of these most high yield resources that was not only essential in my first learning as an M1, but high yield review for Step 1, basic science research, and upper level pathology rotations.

This is a must have resource for learning and understanding Histology. I ended up getting the full version and have no regrets. This study aid led to my success in my histology course and I know it will do the same for anyone else. It's very easy to use and a great way to test your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. I would use this to study during bus rides, in between classes, and even before bed. The high quality images of histological slides show more than enough detail needed to identify and characterize the relevant histology. You also get questions that make you think critically about the function and physiology of the histological area that you are studying. I would not go through histology without this app. 10/10, would recommend!

The SecondLook Histology is an excellent review tool for students to review the histology materials and prepare for their practical exam. It also can serve as a quick review tool for senior year medical students who need to review histology material before going to the residency. The SecondLook histology is easy and convenient to use in many environments and has comprehensive information, which combines identifying the cells, structures, tissue and organs, and related functions. In some cases, it has microscopic images side by side with illustrations, these will enhance understanding the materials. In general, the labels, questions and answers are clear and accurate. It highlighted critical information of histology without feeling overwhelmed for students. Clinically related questions can be added to the SecondLook histology.

This Lite version is an excellent sample of the complete Histology app. Both apps are full of high quality histological images with questions that will challenge any histology learner. These questions not only will test your knowledge of facts, but also your ability to recognize cells, organs and tissues. It only takes a few minutes to find out whether a histology learner is prepared for the next histology exam or what he still needs to study more. As a histology instructor I highly recommend this app to my students.
