Possessions.

I finished this game (3 chapters) in just over an hour. Some have voiced disappointment in the controls but I found them rather intuitive. I may be a tad biased because I’m a designer specializing in 3D. So I got it pretty easily. The artwork is well done. The concept is cool. But I gave one star off for the story. It’s depressing and almost not necessary. I had no investment in the characters or the story. I just wanted to put things where they belonged. If and when more chapters come out and it all makes sense, I’ll be happy to update and add a star. As it is, the story is pretty much meaningless. However, I had fun playing this. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Nice job!

So, I really liked the gameplay. It was a little on the simple side but I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t have minded a bigger challenge but I understand that the story is the point of the game. The devs have a message that they are trying to get out there with this game. I REALLY loved the story. It felt so true to how the average American household has become obsessed with possessions over relationships. As a working father who’s wife stays at home with the kids, this really resonated with me. I found myself wanting to make sure I never became like the father in the story. My only story criticism (if I can even call it that) is that it felt incomplete. I don’t know if I just missed some detail that would help resolve everything or if there is one or two more chapters in the works that complete the story. Also, AR mode seems to be placed a little high. I was standing when I placed it on the ground and it came up to my phone height which is fine for the first couple levels but some later levels require you to be looking down on the level so this won’t work for those. All in all, I would DEFINITELY recommend.

Let’s start with the good. Very relaxing game. Some parts are difficult to find *where* the pieces are, but once located, it’s not too bad. Gameplay is quick- took about 30-40 mins to finish it, so I hoe the devs make another few chapters. Now the bad. What is up with that story?? It’s 2019. Coming from a broken home and being a single father myself, it REALLY a major let down to see how the dad is portrayed in this game. I only finished it because I was over 1/2 way through, other wise I would have stopped playing and immediately deleted this game. Also, the music isn’t much of a match to what is happening. And lastly, does boy get the note or make the note. Or is it the note from earlier? There are a few ways it can go, and most are down a pretty depressing path.

Totally get what the devs were going for, but MAN what a depressing story. Gameplay is beautiful, simple, well designed, and easy to pick up, but becomes more challenging as you go. Wouldn’t have minded a little more of a challenge as it progressed, but it’s great for casual gameplay. I mainly stayed with it because I wanted to see how the story turned out. It started so sweet, I was hoping for something emotionally rewarding, heartwarming without being cliched. The addition of more and more “possessions” to the rooms was a nice illustration of the game’s moral message, but the breezy music and bright, colorful art design leads you to think that it’s headed somewhere uplifting. The sad end may be more realistic, but it’s wildly unfulfilling.

Possessions an exploration of materialism, trying place objects that are misplaced in a 3D environment. That said it’s the type of puzzle that you can fail forward with little challenge beyond trying to decipher tiny objects on screen instead of any real twists. I accidentally found myself solving rather quickly many projects as the audio and visual cues spiked without me actually seeing what I was aligning. It’s too bad as the perspective shift is interesting as a mechanic but seems barely utilized. The biggest challenge comes with another misaligned object blocks another from being placed. This means simply placing it first then the next. That’s it. After that is a story, that’s told in slideshows in the rooms of the house about a family that seems to have a distant father who ignores his wife and later son, and he grows up. It’s hard as the faceless tiny characters aren’t animated, vocalized or even given a speech bubble. So in the end I barely finished the game, it’s pretty and the music is ok but roughly an hour or so of gameplay that’s tedious and lacks little imagination once the original premise is forwarded.
