I like this game, I had a lot of fun figuring it out. It wasn’t as hard as other reviews made it out to be, though I was running with five people the whole time and got a lot of benefit from that. I want to try again with more difficult setups but I don’t think I can because the bugs make it rather annoying to play! The main problem was, I would select an enemy or blockade then try to hit it, the action would select then the whole interaction ui would disappear. This happened multiple times per level, and each time I had to quit the game and reopen it to get it working again. Several times during the game I also seemed to lose the ability to switch between characters, each time I tapped the lower left area to switch, it would act as if I had selected the current character and bring up an interaction ui. I also was unable to cancel out of many actions. Sometimes, I would tap outside the interaction ui and it would close, but most of the time it wouldn’t so I would have to close the game or do to action and hope I could undo it. Finally, the game never ended. I made it to the beach and nothing happened, I can just move my characters around but there’s nothing to interact with and no indication that anything is going to happen.

When you combine the high-difficulty level of the game with procedural maps that border on random placement of monsters and loot, what you get is a game that feels like your ability to progress is more dependent on good luck with the map generation than your ability to problem solve. I’ll continue to give it a go a few more times to see if I’m missing something that would allow my problem-solving skills to play a greater role (and change my review accordingly if so) but right now it feels more like a depressing version of Candyland than the post-apocalyptic XCOM I was hoping for. Edit: the addition of a map restart has made the game significantly more playable. This allows you to try different strategies to win the map and escape. But after awhile the difficulty just seems overwhelming. I’m giving the developers the benefit of the doubt that there is something about the gameplay that I am missing, but I do hold them accountable for not giving me any clue as to what that is. The other problem is that the game burns through my battery power on my 2018 iPad Pro in minutes. I can start with a nearly full battery and be out of power in just a few maps. Because of this I’m upping my rating to 3 stars and moving on to other games.

I’m just gonna summarize what other people are saying, the Games controls are a mess. The buttons you select are way too small for mobile. There is no tutorial, and there a shoulder be one considering how complex this game is. At least introducing the new monsters or looters in later worlds and telling you what they do each time you see one for the first time, even with new items, I want to know what they do instead of having to ‘inspect’ my character while holding the item to find out what it does, explain the perks of having a dog over a human companion, give warnings before you leave an area that you won’t have enough gas to make it somewhere else. The game sets you up to fail from the beginning, hoping you learn how to play the game through dying and starting over multiple times, hoping you don’t quit by the time you have figured out how everything in the game works. This game also appears to run well and is a good looking game, but it causes my iPhone XS to get very hot, which I’m assuming it shouldn’t do. All in all a very fun game, but has too many glaring problems and missing aspects of the game to get a 5 star rating.

This is a really fun and interesting game compared to others but I feel like there should be some certain things that should be worked on. For example it gets frustrating when I try to press an action or try to move an item and it just backs me out or accidentally moves my character two spaces. I feel like it would be a big help if there was some sort of an option that could make the options bigger or smaller to help people with big fingers and small phones. Also adding an option so it’s harder to accidentally move a character which causes you to have to restart. Another thing is that I understand it’s a strategy game but most areas are incredibly difficult to move around when there are monsters all over the map boxing you in. It would be nice if it could be tweaked a little so you can have more space to move and not get boxed in by two monsters. The last thing is that my phone tends to overheat a lot while playing this game. I’m not sure if that’s CSU’s elf the game or my phone but is there anyway that can be improved to help out?

I really love everything about the game except later stages of the game (desert and basin) are extremely hard. There simply is no need for this game to be this hard, because you can’t win. The only thing you can do is to restart until you have a decently free map where there are few monsters. Most of the time your characters are without ammo or weapons, and creatures keep resurrecting. Devs, please don’t respond saying I need to figure out how the game works — I’ve made it to the basin and I know everything about the game. It just doesn’t give you enough room to win, you are always massively outnumbered and outpowered. Since the game mechanics are very repetitive, there’s no fun in trying to restart just to get an easier map. I don’t know how you will fix this, but until then, 2 stars for all the frustration and countless hours I’ve spent restarting. And there is absolutely no strategy that can win at later stages, because the creatures get more and more powerful but you don’t. Your characters are as helpless as the first chapter. It’s sad to see such a great concept being ruined by terrible game design.
