This app is a great idea and it shows good potential, but for now is pretty clunky and very restricted in the information it can provide you with. The appointment booking service would be great if there were actually any appointments available to book (not a single GP appointment in the entire timescale?!) and the test results only go back 6 months which is nowhere near enough to be able to keep a track of things over time. All this means the SystmOnline website is still required for test results and the 3-hour long telephone queue is still required for booking appointments. Would be great to be able to add your children to your profile so that parents can easily order repeat meds/book appointments/see results for children as well as themselves. I really hope the symptom checker helps to prevent people abusing A&E and misusing other services!

Registration was fairly straightforward as I knew my NHS number and had my passport to hand. The thorough registration process I found reassuring because it means the NHS has been very careful about who can access my personal information. They need to know I am who I say I am! Once in the app - I now just need to use my thumbprint to get in it - I am genuinely delighted that I am able to book a GP appointment on my phone at a time when it suits me... I even got an emergency appointment within the hour by just looking on the app! I have also successfully booked and cancelled blood test appointments, ordered a prescription and registered to be an organ donor. It’s exciting to think that these basic features are only the beginning of the app for the NHS. I look forward to seeing what new things it will be able to do in the future, I’m also looking forward to be able to add my young daughter to my account. Well done NHS, and thank you. 💙

I’ve just registered for access to this and found it very frustrating. On my first two attempts on the video upload, it started with a 100% upload but then nothing happened and on clicking the only back link on the screen I was taken back to the login and had to start the process again. I then shut the app down and tried again, this time the video uploaded but I then made the mistake of reading the privacy notice. Again, here, clicking the only back button took me back to login and I had to start the process again (having already put all the information I needed away). I got through on my fourth attempt. (iPhone XR, iOS12.2) However, now I’m in the app it looks pretty useful.

This app provides access to my health record for past 50 years, which is helpful when being asked about conditions and dates. I am able to access test results for the past 3.5 years. I suspect that a missing test result is the fault of the medical practice record rather than the app. It’s great to be able to order repeat medications and not to have to make phone calls, especially at busy times. The app also shows when the GP has approved the prescription. I have been able to book appointments within 2 weeks but as expected urgent appointments need to be made by phone. Overall a very helpful app.

Finally the NHS has released an app where you can book appointments! My GP practice, you cannot book an appt. over the phone as it’s a way too over populated surgery so you have to go up to practice on the day to book an appt. The other alternative is to book an appt. via their online system which is a faff to book onto and not very user friendly. This app was easy to get started (I submit my ID which was accepted within 30 mins) and is ready to go with my fingerprint ID. Finally the NHS is getting with the times and making booking appts. so much easier.
