My Passport America – 50% Disc

Maps don’t work, search doesn’t work well, won’t work at all if it doesn’t have your current location. (Horrid choice for travelers using the app). Tried to look up Tennessee and nothing would come up I had to search using the state. This is a paid service, charging each member yearly, PA could certainly pay google the fee to use maps. Or look into other map options, last resort take the mapping option off. When people are traveling looking for a place to stay most don’t have the time or energy to find a map to figure out where overnight campgrounds are located. Such a shame, spend a couple dollars and fix your app!

This could be a good app but it has a major problem. For some reason it needs to have access to your location in order to work. For example, you’re in Southern California and want to look for an RV Park in Oregon. You don’t have access to WiFi so you turn on your iPhone hotspot. Since you’re using an iPhone hot spot which does not support “your location” the app will not let you look for a place 1000 miles away. I can only think of two reasons for this. First, and I hope it’s not the reason, is that Passport America is recording where you are. The second, which I’m betting on, is that the programmer who wrote the app doesn’t know what he’s doing. I have let Passport America know about this issue about a week ago but it has not been corrected yet. I know, a week isn’t a lot of time but considering a lot of people use hotspots to access the internet it means the app is useless to a lot of people until it’s fixed.

I am having trouble with trip routing. I called and the gentleman on the phone said that I should have App version 1.5.1. I have version 1.4.0. He said to go to App Store and do update on the My Passport America app. There is no update and the version in the App Store is the same as I have 1.4.0. How an i update the your app? The trouble is only with trip routing portion of app. When trip routing loads it comes up with a box that says, This page can’t load Google Maps correctly. If you hit ok the box goes away and the page is there with the tabs for passport camp ground locations but map is shadowed dark with “for development purposes only” on the page. Please respond

Passport America is great for RV travel. It not only has saved us money, but the places and people have all been very helpful. At Sullivan's in Pocatello I thought Steve was going to do the whole hookup. Just super nice. One really helpful item that they have over most other apps is the route planning, that shows you all the possibilities along the route. Love the app.

Since this app requires location information to be useful, and evidently, from an iPad, does not recognize an iPhone as a source (although the iPad and iPhone are setup correctly), this app is a non-starter for me. If this app would be made iPad compatible, and not so insistent that my location must be available to do, essentially, anything useful, then I would rate it higher. Demanding location information to do anything, including tasks where my current location is not relevant, is not very user friendly, or even responsible. I am removing the app, and will try again once this fatal flaw is corrected.
