Suitable for individuals looking to understand and improve their current level of fitness, the Move Your MET app is brought to you by Irish Life Health, in partnership with Dublin City University (DCU). This free app is used by participants in the Workplace Fitness Challenge and can also be used by individuals of any fitness level. The app allows users to calculate their cardiovascular fitness level based on the internationally recognised standard of Metabolic Equivalent of Task, ‘MET’. Just follow the simple instructions to test your fitness with a 1 mile walk or 1.5 mile run completed at your fastest pace. The app shows you how to measure your heart rate and calculates your individual MET score using your basic profile information. The app provides personalised feedback on your fitness level in comparison to the general population of your age and gender. Users are challenged to improve their MET score and to meet or exceed a MET score of 10, the minimum level recommended for individuals over the age of 18. What is a MET? A MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a simple yet effective means of expressing your fitness level. The higher your MET score, the fitter you are. For individuals over the age of 18, it is recommended that you have a MET score of at least 10. What is the Workplace Fitness Challenge? At Irish Life Health, we are passionate about supporting health and wellbeing initiatives and are proud to work in partnership with Dublin City University (DCU) in launching The Workplace Fitness Challenge and the Move Your MET app. The goal of the challenge is to provide a programme that supports Ireland’s workforce to become fitter and healthier by increasing levels of physical activity in the workplace. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
