I'm Ping Pong King :)

First of all, I have to say that this games’ simplicity is excellently executed, in the art and the gameplay, and the fast paced, reflex-based action is great for short play sessions! But, after beating the somewhat pitifully small selection of rivals, there is nothing more to the game, which is a real shame. If I could make one suggestion, it would be online multiplayer. You could go online and face hundreds of thousands of players all over the globe, and battle to improve your score on regional and global leaderboards. And, you might think “But even the slightest bit of lag would cause the game to be almost unplayable, as the gameplay is so fast!”, but there is a solution to that as well! Simply have everyone play a match against a CPU that cannot lose, record how long that player lasts (eg, 50 hits), and then other people challenge a CPU that plays at the same skill level as the recorded player (in this instance, the CPU would miss the ball after 50 consecutive bats). Now I know I shouldn’t be trying to tell you guys how to do your jobs, and really this is just a loose idea, but I do think that this game could be such a massive success if there was just more to it.

The game is good apart from sometimes when I click the right button it goes left and then I lose the whole match so I have to restart and it’s so annoying and also I think the age rating should be younger just because it might get really hard doesn't mean it should be rated around 12 I think it’s a bit mean of the company who made the game to put the age rating so high because and innocent 9 year old child might come along and look at the reviews and the pictures and be really interested in getting it but then they look at the age rating and go “ Oh no the age rating is 12 and I’m only 9 I mean I could download it but that’s just breaking the age rating” I mean seriously guys that would be so disappointing if it was me who was to young to download an interesting looking game if you want more people to download it change the age rating come on game makers change it change it CHANGE IT NOW if you want to become an even more popular game making company

I absolutely loved this little gem of a game. Very simple in premise but not no simple to master. For me, this game has the perfect level of challenge, every time I lost, it felt like my fault and not like I was being cheated, which kept pushing forward to become The Ping Pong King! Also this game is beautiful, it has a very minimalistic art style but that, mixed with its fantastic animation makes it one of the best looking games on the App Store, in my opinion. Overall I think if your interested enough to look at the reviews for this game, then just download it. It’s free to play, the adds aren’t really intrusive and it’s less than the price of a coffee to remove them. The highest praise I can give this game, is that I’m actually leaving a review for it, which I haven’t done for a game in a very long time. Also I completed the game and only afterwards did I pay to remove the adds just to give back to the developer for such a great little experience. Thanks devs!

Couple of issues need attending then it’ll get 5 stars. Firstly I don’t mind ads, but these ads seem to have an audio bug and all I can hear is adverts whilst trying to play, very annoying and distracting when you’re concentrating. Second, every now and then the game seems to lag, the ball moves across the table in what seems like ultra slow motion, not sure why it does it. But done it far too many times now. Other than the above issues, highly addictive game, great fun, also a bit more challenging once you get to the Orangenose Tournament although still not terribly hard. Impossible Tests are much more challenging. The main 50 levels are easy, and do not seem to increase in difficulty at all other than games going from 3 to 5 points for a win.

I think discussing the art style is a good way to summarise the entire problem with this game. It looks great when you first go start but you quickly realise there are a very limited number of individual images that are aggressively recycled throughout. All ‘50 different opponents’ look identical and I’m practice are just a small increase in reaction time required. The opponents start of being fun (Neighbour, Teacher, Sister) but quickly converges to a Random Country and a number between 1-5. The game is also simplified to the point where it’s no longer a sports game. There’s practically no interaction with an opponent at all. With no options to aim the ball the best tactic is to stare at just your own side of the table and react until you arbitrarily win. This reduces any feeling of a sport. One of the opponents characters 3 or 4 rotated phrases is ‘read. Let’s fight’ and this increasingly feels ironic.
