GirlCrew - Meet New People

This app feels very promising, but it really lacks any personality or community. Essentially it’s like Meetup, but women only. You can join different interest groups (very basic— travel, fitness & wellness, health & beauty, staying in) and anyone can post in those groups to ask for advice, people to hang out with, organize an event etc. There are a few things that just feel odd in the app. For starters, there’s not much to your profile. You can add a bio, but it’s optional. How are we supposed to know if someone is “like-minded” if they have nothing on their profile? Additionally, the interest groups aren’t locally focused. I saw a girl asking about starting a hiking group, but she lives in the UK— I’m in the US. So right away, I realized I wasn’t going to be able to connect with a lot of the people in those groups. What’s the point in seeing people in another country organizing a meetup? I went to my local group, and it wasn’t much more promising. It’s just one big group for your whole city. All kinds of interests and no way to really determine what someone is like or what their hobbies are. Why not have a “hiking” interest group that’s located only in SF? Overall, I was hopeful about this app, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.

Everyone has super busy lives these days and maybe you want to try something new. Girl Crew is such a great low key way of meeting new friends who want to do the same things as you. I enthusiastically answered the first call to go out dancing way back when I lived in Dublin, and thrilled with its spread across the world.

My girlfriend was immediately accepted and able to use her account. When I messaged them, they told me I couldn’t be verified and either had to send a pic or email them for other options. Not sure why my account was discriminated against but it made me feel super uncomfortable that they wanted a selfie of me with some sign in it. Their “this picture will not be shared or saved” line was like yeah ok sure. This is the internet... Anyway, this was a really bad first impression for this app. We will see if anything is done to fix the issue but if not, my girlfriend and I will find some other app and spread the word.

I struggled for years to make new friends when I moved away from home. Just by putting myself out there on Girlcrew I now have 5 girl-friends that support me in every way possible! I would never have met them if it wasn't for Girlcrew. Thank you for bringing happiness into my life! ❤️

I was really excited to download this app as I’ve been looking to make some friends with similar interests. Sadly there isn’t that same “network” feel to it as apps like Facebook or Instagram. I would most definitely reconsider using the app once a few changes have been made, such as: 1. More cities (or even just states) to select. I couldn’t find anyone from my area as my city/state wasn’t an option. 2. More hobbies and interests to list. I think the current interest list is a good start, but very surface level for a friend-making app. Overall, I love the concept of this app and I really hope improvements will be made soon. This could be a game changer for so many women!
