A cross between Undertale, Doki Doki Literature Club, and an idle clicker game would be my best description of this app. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, and the style reminds me of a grim anime that everyone gets hooked on at least once in their lives. There is an odd, cultish feeling to the repeated mantras within. Instead of deterring me, it keeps me guessing for what may happen next. In order to proceed in this game, you must tap on speech bubbles and “read” an interesting choice of books in order to gain EGO, the game’s main currency. When you have enough, you speak with Es, a mysterious and intelligent bookworm with several things to hide. Each time you visit, you either learn more about yourself through thoughtful games, quizzes, and puzzles, or you learn more about the world you are in. Another character that you see quite often is Façade, a stone face that bids you to stay on the path you are on and keep yourself from going astray. A constant fight between the calculated but impulsive Es and the stubborn but good intentioned Façade will bring you towards enlightenment...or the brink of insanity. Those who love secrets, creativity, and reading between the lines, as well as have a healthy respect for choice-based and clicker games, will absolutely enjoy this wonderful, spine-tingling, and immersive adventure.
While searching for a game that would keep me entertained having little expectations for the game I installed, I came across alter ego. After completing the good ending and taking in the sheer relief of finally completing the game after trial and error, I came to write a review not only the best mobile game I have ever played, but one of the best games I have ever played. After the start of the game, I was committed to find the lore of this game, desperately trying to progress, take the personality tests, and talk to es. After getting the bad ending despite my slow progress, I was more committed than ever to completing the game and finding the good ending. After finding the ending, I was satisfied with the ending and with the game, something uncommon with mobile games for me. Believe me, this game will start of slow, but if you persist, I can guarantee you will be satisfied. Please please download this masterpiece of a game.
I was looking through the App Store one night and I happened to stumble upon this game. When I first saw it I thought it was going to be a bunch of personally tests but I was wrong. When I first entered the game I was a little confuse but quickly figure Ed out the mechanics of the game. You have to collect ego to talk to Es. Whenever you talk to Es you are given a personality quiz, story to interpret, or just talk to her. After playing for a while I started to get stuck in the game logging on every day to see if I could save Es. The music in the game is very calming. The black and white colors are also really nice to. I would give this game 10/5 if I could this game is very underrated. I don’t want to spoil the game for you so you just have to play it. My only complaint would be is that I wish I could do more with Es once you reach the happy ending. I definitely recommend this game to anyone.
I play a lot of random mobile games, I usually avoid posting reviews because I’m bad at them, but I had to for this one. Alter Ego here isn’t long, it can be beaten in a day or less easily, there’s only one or maybe two background songs, and maybe five sound effects, but it’s one worth keeping once you complete it. The personality “tests” are the biggest part, I found mine to be shockingly accurate to my true self, but the part I focused on the most was the story. I can relate to both characters in extremes, but the third ending was by far my favorite. The “true” ending I won’t spoil, but it blew me away, Es has easily become my new favorite character in any game I’ve played before, and I love being able to come back day after day and just listen to her talk. If I could rate it on a 10 point scale, I’d rate it a 10/10.
Never write reviews, quite a nostalgic feeling for me here. It’s not that this game is profound, I’ve played more compact games- with a broad OST or more complex mechanics- but this isn’t other games. An idle game with a story, multiple endings, a questioning experience. The experience at a whole was very driving and it shows what a simple text box simulator can do to the human brain. I was drawn in immediately by Es and the way she communicates with The Wanderer. The coexistence of Ego Rex was the main selling point of the storytelling in this game. The right or wrong is established point blank and the set of choices are given to you. It’s up to you to establish emotional points between each character and I find that quite amazing. It’s absolutely a beautiful game, I believe everybody should give it a try at the least, it deserves that.
