Are you having trouble falling asleep? Are your kids hyperactive when playing with the tablet before bed time? Are you using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening? Twilight may be a solution for you! Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep may distort your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause inability to fall asleep. The cause is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin. This receptor is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480nm range which may suppress Melatonin production - a hormone responsible for your healthy sleep-wake cycles. In experimental scientific studies it has been shown an average person reading on a tablet or smart phone for a couple of hours before bed time may find their sleep delayed by about an hour. See references below.. The Twilight app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day. It filters the flux of blue light emitted by your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times. Documentation http://twilight.urbandroid.org/doc/ Get more from Twilight 1) Bed reading: Twilight is more pleasant on the eyes for night reading. Especially as it is able to lower the screen backlight far below the ability of the backligt controls on your screen 2) AMOLED screens: We have tested Twilight on an AMOLED screen for 5 years without any sign of depletion or over-burning. If properly configured Twilight causes less light emission (by enabling dimming) with more equal light distribution (dark areas of the screen such as the status bar get tinted). This may in fact increase your AMOLED screen life time. Awesome app, but I wish it could work on the notification bar as well. Also, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work sometimes. :( Edit: Yes, I am aware- I came to know about the limitation when I was searching the forums for it; I was not complaining about it. Sorry if it seemed like that. Re: Edit: Finally, thank goodness!
I've used this app for years now, but recently it has been glitchy. Specifically after I turn it off in the mornings my phone's wallpaper disappears. If I restart my phone it doesn't come back, I have to turn my phone off for it to come back, and even then it doesn't always right away. I have to keep turning it off and on to get it to appear again.
I thought I had dark mode finally. When I go to the MAIN PAGE and hit custom the screen goes black. But when I leave it the screen is just a dim. I am going to play with it a little more. I had to come back to edit my review. As soon as I closed out and returned to the home screen, It Was In Dark Mode! Which thank you so much for that. With cataracts and just had one surgery this is great Thank You again Edit; I still love this app. But I have a VPN now and there is problems working together?
*Edit* Finally works on lock screen and notifications bar! Yay!!! Thank you! *Previous review:* I'm so upset Google ruined this app with the Oreo update. It can't work on the lock screen or notifications panel anymore. So I have to use the OS blue light filter which just isn't good enough :( Will this ever be fixed?
I started using this app less than a week ago and almost immediately noticed an increase in my sleep. I had previously used the blue light filter on my Android phone and it didn't work half as well as this app. Love it! (PS. Also, less straining on the eyes.)
