I really like this app for those late-night or on-the-go thoughts that I HAVE to get down now or risk losing forever. I just wish there was a PC version! It’s so simple and has just enough tabs to help me keep from getting lost in a jumble of save files. I wish I could flip it all over to my computer when I want to be able to actually type, with my whole hands instead of pecking away on a tiny screen with my thumbs. Trying to find a comparable program for my PC (not a Mac or I’d just use Final Draft) has been frustrating. I don’t want prompts, or crazy features, just maybe the ability to save projects by PROJECT (chapters, characters, notes), all in one program without having to have 1,000 different save files and as many windows open all the time. Is that so hard? Clearly it’s not THAT hard. This little app has managed to check *most* of the necessary boxes. Even if it’s only on my phone.
I'm an aspiring writer, and needed a new app to help me sort and write my stories and such in a more organized fashion. Out of the apps I saw, this one seemed to be the most well equipped for the job. When I first opened the app, I didn't like how the layout was created- and it, not uncommonly, the photos gave a very clean and professional look. I moved past this small factor though, just happy to have something to write in. After writing chapter three of my my new story, and starting number four, I decided to play around a bit and write some information for my three main characters. Though, to my astonishment, it wouldn't let me start another note, only suggesting I switched to "premium." This automatically translated to "hah, you have to get another app that actually costs money if you actually want to write in something other then notes" I immediately went to he AppStore to see if it even mentioned the limitation of four notes, though saw nothing. And all the reviews seemed pretty good, so what's up? Did everyone else just shrug it off and decide to go "premium?" I have no idea. I'm just a writer whose writing about a bad writing tool in order to help other writers like herself.
I highly recommend this app, as an aspiring writer this has honestly helped me loads. I have ADHD and I tend to get sidetracked easily but the format of the app makes it super easy to stay organized and it’s simple to just jot down a random fleeting idea in the heat of the moment. With this app I’ve been helped out a lot and my stories have been loads more successful and well though out. You’re not even required to write chapters, you can simply just write down basic outlines giving you a foundation to work off of and keeping that random thought in an easily found place. During my time using this I’ve never experienced a single glitch like my things deleting or not showing up, which I have experienced among plenty other apps!!! I honestly do implore anyone who’s looking into writing to use this app!! It’s a straight 10/10 for me!!!
Overall I really like this app. It’s very easy to email my writing to myself and the format is clean and simple and transfers easily. I do wish that it’s stated that you have to pay $2.99 for the app after four notes. Because it was only $2.99 I wasn’t too stressed about the price. After seeing the functions I found it to be a little too simple for paying $2.99 for this app. I know there’s other similar apps I could’ve gotten for free. First, I wish it had a read back function. I also wish that you could write in different colors, highlight, italicize, bold, or strike out. Then I think the app would be worth the $2.99 it costs. The auto save is great! I can immediately stop writing and go to another app and even close the app by accident and not lose what I wrote. I even notice that there is a restore function in the settings which hopefully if I ever lose this app I can restore all my chapters. I also like that has a passcode option for protecting my work. The recording option and inserting the photo option is great too. Overall I have to say it’s an easy to use app and I like the function that it does have and I already paid $2.99 for it so I’ll definitely be using in the future I just wish you had some more upgrades. If you’re interested in it I don’t mind paying $2.99 I would say go ahead and get it is decent for what it is.
Most keyboards require landscape mode and the navigation / page turning arrows within the app are too sensitive for the shortened amount of writing space leftover with the (uncollapsible) document pane on the left. Rather than losing already limited screen real estate to two different navigation menus, it would be nice if there were just one. The navigation arrows are too easy to trigger and turn the page to the next document while I am trying to type, scroll, and select text. If the typing area were larger, say without the navigation pane (like in portrait mode), maybe half the scrolls would not be not interpreted as a page turn. Likewise I would have no problem navigating soley via the onscreen document pane if I didn't also have to reopen the document and refind my place every three minutes because of the arrows / swipe function. Edit - dropping from 2 stars to 1 as emailed app support and they clearly did not bother to read it and sent me a link on how to keep my iPad screen from rotating.
