I very much enjoy my membership at Virgin active at the Strand. I find the PT engaging and helpful and some of the classes exceptionally good. I enjoy the clean and relatively empty swimming pool. My only complaint is regarding the guest passes. I have been issued few of these since joining, but they expired relatively quickly if not used. Also during the Easter break i used my only guest pass to be told that i could have used easter promotion card. When asked if this could be exchanged and rectified i was told that is not possible. So, some flexibility towards clients would be very much welcome. Sincerely Dr O. Slater
The club is nice and clean and the gym is well equipped and the class teachers are fabulous. The cafe is great too. Now for the bad points... the car park at the front is like the Land Rover test track! Pot holes galore and not little ones either! Come on how much is a tonne of stones to fill them in really costing in the grand scheme of things?! Club V booking is an absolute joke. You have to book 10 days in advance (and by 9am or you can't get in) then have to remember to go into your app 3 days later to book your class to coincide! Managed to do this successfully 3 times over 4 & 1/2 months of trying 😫 When you do take your child in the signing in sheet has orange lines across it for all the 'no shows' (5 on Friday when I went and that was just the over 3's!) and by the staffs own admission they can't do anything about it. No phone calls to parents to tell them off or even an email. Why can't we book Club V 7 days in advance through the app? Calling them usually takes around 6 attempts to get them as they are always on the phone. The stuff in Club V is extremely limited for an 8 year old. The Virgin Active website tells of all the fabulous things that children can do. You only do one of them and whenever I'm up in the gym there are just a few children doing it. Really pointless. Come on Solihull Virgin Active you can do much better!
The functionality of the app is great except for one fundamental flaw that makes notifications obsolete. Classes in my club fill up virtually as they’re released. That means at best you can only hope to be on the waiting list. If you happen to get into the class it’s usually because people pull out at the last minute. The app then notifies the next on the waiting list NOT by text but by email. I get about 50 emails a day and that doesn’t include work. So unless I’m checking my email constantly, waiting for a notification I’m not going to notice it. Then I miss the class and deny someone else the chance. Worse still, if this happens 3 times in a week (happened to me twice in a day once) then there is a 7 day ban on booking classes. Life is too busy to be checking email every half an hour just in case you get in the class. This notification needs to be SMS. It’s not difficult Virgin Active, just sort it out.
Only gave a 3star as I often find the changing rooms and access to the pool at Moorgate to be untidy and dirty.. In the ladies changing room, dirty towels are not emptied often enough so they are stacked up very high and I've seen them fall in a heap on the floor. The soap dispensers aren't always topped up. The other day I had to try 3 different shower cubicles before I found one that had soap in. I also find the floors aren't mopped very often, there is a lot of long hair that sticks to your feet!! :( Every time I've gone to use the pool at Moorgate, I find the stairs very dirty. I often walk down the side instead of the middle as there is always a mess like people have walked up and down them with dirty shoes on. This should be hosed down and disinfected more often I think. The spa pool at Moorgate is not relaxing at all. You have to sit in still warm water for too many minutes before only one side operates, its a bit annoying. Otherwise no complaints about the staff as they are friendly and always happy to chat. The Barbican changing rooms and pool access are the cleanest and the staff there are also very friendly and helpful. Only one niggle about Barbican. When will the leaky roof in studio one be fixed? Thanks
Useful for making your gym class bookings but I find the layout and UX A a bit clunky and irritating at times, for instance you need to be careful to be really precise when tapping the area that forwards through the days on the time table- the button is very close to another one! Another example is the pop up box that tells you you've booked a class stays up too long and it's location often means it obscures other classes you also want to book on the same screen. They seem to update it more regularly now so hopefully these clunky issues won't be around too much longer! It glitches and freezes quite a bit too, needing you to close the app and reopen. Overall, it does the job well enough.
