For the most part the app is well laid out and everything is mostly functional. I like the concept, like the product. However I’m docking the app one star for every issue I see. First, the plugs offer far more device icons you can assign than the switches. Here’s why that’s mind boggling. A wall fixture, ceiling light, light bulb, chandelier, and ceiling fan are NOT usually something you turn on and off with a smart outlet. You operate these things with a wall switch and these icons are available on the outlet, but NOT the switches! The switches settings only offer a whopping 3 choices. A lamp, a vent, and an overhead projector? This makes no sense. Offer the entire icon lot for all devices. Second, I can find no ‘about’ section that offers links to faqs, a website, or links for support. I think that’s unacceptable and needs to change. Thirdly, and I’m not going to dock any more stars for this, the app hasn’t yet successfully allowed me to control anything from outside my home. The plugs are connected to my main WiFi router fine. All switches show as discovered. But I tried to access the plug from cellular only as it is advertised you can do this with this setup properly, and the app flat out told me to move closer to my device. These are easy issues to fix and there’s no reason not to. Fix that up and I’ll be happy to update my review. Everything else is just swell.

Okay imma start off simple. I’ve seen so many bad reviews of this. It really makes me wonder how ungrateful these people are. “You should be able to tell Siri to turn it off”, “i have no problems with the updates but I have to be right next to it”... “I can’t control it with more than one phone”... first off you get what you pay for. I’m not saying it’s bad, but if you want all the bells and whistles you’re going to pay a more hefty price. There is nothing this app cannot do that is advertised. If you’re worried about making your life even more easy, after you have an app that controls your lights, you deserve to get up and turn your lights on. Be grateful you have electricity to turn on and off for 1, some people say yeah I work for my electricity to be paid, my house, my car, yeah I get that. And 2, be grateful YOU CAN REMOTELY CONTROL YOUR SWITCH... like what the heck... you can wirelessly turn your light on and off, how wonderful is that. Great! Right? We’ll be grateful we’re not in the Stone Age. If you don’t like it, buy a new product. This app turns the motor in the switch to turn my light on and off. That’s all I ask for, not a voice command robot to do as I ask all the way 5,000 miles away from my house. Thank you.

These switches are a lifesaver for me being a totally connected home but not able to put switches in as I live in an older high rise with no neutral wires on the switches. The SwitchMate products complete my totally connected home and work like a charm. The switches do what they say and are a snap (pun intended) to install and get running. The hookup to Alexa was seamless and simple. Boo Hoo to you people who say ‘It takes 3 seconds for Alexa to turn them off.’ Lol What do you care? It does the job and who waits for Alexa to turn anything off anyway? You say it and leave. If you are watching to see if Alexa turned something off, then why don’t you just turn it off manually? As for you others that can’t get it to work with Alexa......Well, with no offense, that’s your ineptitude. It’s straight forward and flawless. I hate to see a company that we need to fill the gap of home automation be put down because people aren’t Tech savvy enough to get things working. These are great! The App is great except for no watch association! Buy these, read the instructions, and sit back and enjoy!

The app works great with the Switchmate products I have, which is why it was save from getting a single star. It mainly only works with Bluetooth if you want to use the app to control the devices. This means you have to be close enough to the devices for the signal to reach. I have most of the switches and outlets on a schedule timeframe so I don’t have to worry that much to turn them on and off. The main draw back is that my devices no longer work with my Alexa. I don’t know if it was the Alexa app update or Switchmate app update that caused the problems. Either way it was a selling point, with those products and this app, that it could be used with Alexa or Google home. With that feature gone, the devices and this app loose its quality. Hopefully it gets fixed with an update, soon.

I have the Switchmate toggle light switch - battery operated and controllable through the app. I LOVE it. First time I had ever purchased anything like this: I’ve had it for over a year now, just replaced the batteries once, and I use it every day for my hallway light. I started it in my bedroom but I AirBnB my house and found it would be most useful in the hallway for when guests are coming and going because I can set a timer for it to come on and off easily. Absolutely love this and will be buying a few more. Does have an audible sound when flipping the switch but honestly easier than re-wiring and replacing your existing switches (which I ended up doing in my bedroom).

Switchmate Home Description

The Switchmate app allows you to interact with our full suite of Switchmate Devices!

Connect, Configure & Control Switchmate, SWMbright, SWMpower, Zip, and SWMcube all in one place. Setup, toggling, setting preferences like timers and Welcome Home, and more!

We are currently hard at work on a major ground-up revamp (v4.0) and would love to hear your feedback, we're listening!
Feedback/Suggestions? reqs@switchmatehome.com
Support/Need Help? support@switchmatehome.com

Features:
- Control your existing

switches or power ports
- Timers: automatically turn your switches or plugs on/off at preset times
- Welcome Home: automatically turn on switches or plugs of your choosing when you get home
- Updates: get over the air firmware updates for your Switchmate device(s) to make sure you have the latest/greatest
- Google Assistant Support (Home Control if you have a SWMpower/Zip, or Explore for BLE-Only Functionality)
- (SWMpower/Zip) Remote Control away from home!
- (SWMpower/Zip) Alexa Support
- Voice Control: Use the mic icon in the app to control your lights with your voice, see below for more details!

Some of the Features we're working on for 4.x:
- Widgets: Add them to your Today Screen so you don't have to open the app to toggle switches or use voice commands
- Grouping: Create & control groups of devices together.
- Timeout: Automatically turn off a switch after X amount of time!
- API & Tasker/IFTTT Plugins: Per your requests, we're still in the early planning stages on this one but we're working on it!
- iWatch Support: Because who doesn't want to use their watch to do all this?

Voice Control Feature:
You can click the Microphone icon in the app and simply say your command - voice activation tries to first match by the switch name that shows in your list of devices (and you can change under Device Settings), but if it can't find that it will try to match to the location you selected when you first setup your Switchmate(s). And you can even use "all" to control all switches within range! Here are some examples:
"Turn Kenny's Room light off"
"Turn on my living room lights"
"Turn all my lights off"
"Bedroom on"

We covered a good amount of variation in voice commands but if you find one that doesn't work definitely let us know and we'll see what we can do to get it added in!

--------------

Requirements:
- Switchmate Device(s) of course!
- iOS 8+ is required so we can use Bluetooth Low Energy in order to save a lot of battery!

Switchmate devices are currently only sold in the US and Canada, but we're working on international releases already and hope to be launching in various international markets!

Note: This application asks for use of background services for the "Welcome Home" feature.
