I love this app. So much music is available, you can download for offline listening, I love the mood/genre playlists, I love the radio feature and playlists designed just for me, and I use it daily. HOWEVER, I really wish it could take a lead out of Windows Media Player’s book and figure out the whole temporary playlist/queue thing. If I want to switch from listening to Artist #1 on shuffle to Artist #2, I’d have to go into the queue and skip all the way to the last song so that it clears all of the songs from #1. If I don’t do that, if I go straight to shuffle playing Artist #2, it’ll play one song and go right back to the queue, which is loaded with #1 songs. Really annoying. On the other hand, it’s ridiculously easy to destroy a queue that you’ve worked really hard to add songs to one at a time to. You could always avoid this by creating a new playlist, but when you have dozens and you’re just in the mood to listen to a few certain songs, it’s nice to be able to just listen to them and not have the list hanging around after. Another dislike, while I’m at it: you can’t go back to previously played songs on a queue. So if my hands are full or icky and I can’t get to my phone to look at what song is playing on the queue/my radio, I don’t have a way to go back and look at what it is. Maybe I’m missing something with all of this queue stuff but it seems like basic intuitive features are missing.

This app is very easy to use and, obviously, the content is fantastic. I would give it 5 stars if not for one significant problem: the app’s inability to effectively control shuffle mode and repeat mode I’m not sure if I’m the only one with this issue, but it’s been a problem for as long as I can remember. If I’m listening to an album and want to listen to it in order, I obviously want to turn off shuffle mode. But if I’ve just been listening to a playlist on shuffle, there’s about a 50/50 chance shuffle mode will actually stay off when I press the button to turn it off. Sometimes I’ll try closing the app and reopening to retry playing the album, but that also often doesn’t work. And the problem exists reciprocally too (if I’m listening to an album in order then want to switch to shuffling a playlist, I’ll hit “Shuffle Play” and the app will start the playlist at a random song but then play it in order, no matter how many times I try to turn shuffle mode on). My opinion of this app started at 5 stars, then the issue became very noticeable and my rating went down to 4 stars. Now, I experience this issue multiple times per week (sometimes multiple times per day), so I can’t give the app more than 3 stars. I still use it religiously and love my playlists and all the other features, but this is a significant part of the listening experience that the app should be doing much better.

It’s a great app except for the fact that the new update changed how my music library is laid out. It makes sense to have music and podcasts in separate tabs but it is difficult to find artists I have saved to my library. You have to be following an artist for them to show up in a list in your library. I have no interest in following any of the artists I have saved. I just want to be able to scroll through all the artists whose songs I have saved, whether it be one song or their entire discography, and select their music that way. Sure, I can find them in “recommended artists” but there is no way to sort them alphabetically. Please fix this. Also, this problem has been around for a while now, but how come whenever I look at the albums in my library, the albums that I only have a few songs saved from still display the entire album? There are several albums that have 5 or 6 songs that I like, but whenever I want to listen to just those songs, I have to make a separate playlist for them because when I start playing the album from my library, it plays all of the songs, even ones I have not saved. What the heck? Edit: looking at the albums tab, I can now only find albums that I have saved the whole thing. It’s kind of hard to find my music now.

I’ve been a premium user for at least 5 years, almost 10 probably, but this new update is enough to make me want to switch platforms if it’s not fixed. Your saved artists are listed in a completely random order (based on how much you listen to them or something, I don’t know) and it is impossible to search the list to find the artist you’re looking for. As in, the search function in the artists tab simply doesn’t exist. Unless of course you follow the artist, like this is some wannabe social media app. Just want to listen to music? Too bad. This is Twitter now. You can no longer search for your music by the album, instead the album tab only displays the albums if you’ve saved them entirely. Want to listen to that album you love but skip the instrumental intro? Too bad. Unless you have every song you can’t play the album. But the issues don’t stop there. You can no longer scroll through your complete list of saved music by the letter. You can’t even search by a letter or the start of a song and expect it to give you songs that start with that letter. Want to listen to “home” by Breaking Benjamin? Well type in “home” and the results will be anything from “coming home” by Avenged Sevenfold to the “thoughtless” cover by Evanescence (which doesn’t even have home in the title) before the actual song you’re looking for. The system is absolutely atrocious for anyone who isn’t just trying to play all of their music on shuffle.

1. You need to include an alphabetical quick scroll on the right-hand side of all of your lists, whether it’s your list of playlists, your Artist Library, or inside an actual playlist looking at songs. No one has the time to swipe for 30 seconds to the bottom of their library when they want to listen to The Who. A quick scroll has been a standard on every music app for years now. Get with the times! 2. The artist library page needs a royal update. Or retro-date, rather. I had an older version of the app until yesterday where all artists whose music you had saved into your library displayed on the same library in a neat, clean fashion, regardless of whether or not you Follow them. Now you can only neatly organize those artists whom you Follow, and the rest are left in this awkward, disorganized list of artists with a big “Follow” button next to it. We know what you’re doing guys. If we want to follow an artist, we will. For now, just let us organize our artist library in a straightforward fashion. 3. Another retro-date: put back the option to view your Songs Library. Sometimes you just wanna shuffle your songs. Yeah, the “Liked Songs” playlist is there, and that’s cool and all, but it’s not intuitive when you have “Playlists” and “Artists” listed up top. Put it back.
