Seasonal fruits and vegetables produced on local farms are often fresher, as they do not require long distances for transport. Also, unlike out of season produce which is harvested early in order to be shipped and distributed to your local retail store, crops picked at their peak ripeness are full of flavor. Studies also show that fruits and vegetables may contain more nutrients when allowed to ripen naturally on their parent plant.<br><br>Why is eating local food important?<br>● Purchasing local food benefits the environment and helps support local farms in your community. A recent USDA study also found that direct-to-consumer producers were less likely to apply pesticides and herbicides to control weeds and insects than conventional producers (with the exception of chemicals to control insects and weeds in fruit, nut and berry crops).<br>● By purchasing local food, you’re supporting your community! The money you spend on products from local farmers and growers stays in the community and is reinvested with other local businesses, which generates jobs and subsequently stimulates local economies.<br>● Local growers can tell you how your food was grown. When you buy directly from farmers, you have the opportunity to ask what practices they use to raise and harvest the crops, enhancing consumer transparency around the steps it takes to get our food from farm to table. <br><br>Developer Information:<br>The Seasonal Food Guide is a project of GRACE Communications Foundation, a nonprofit organization that develops innovative strategies to increase public awareness of the critical environmental and public health issues created by our current industrial food system, and to advocate for more sustainable alternatives.<br><br>If you have any questions about the Seasonal Food Guide or would like to make a suggestion, please contact email@example.com.

I check this app before grocery shopping and try to stick with food that is in season. The list can get pretty long, so I really wish it had a “back to top” button. It would make it scrolling much easier. Besides that, it’s a great app!!
The app is useful and attractive, but it has a huge design flaw. By default, it shows me an alphabetized list of foods that are in season where I live. And for each food, I can click on a button that says “seasonality” to find out more about the food and when it is in season. So far, so good. But when I click the left arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the screen to return to the alphabetized list of foods in season, I am always returned to the very top of the list. This is a big problem, because the list is always very long. For example, if I am reading about the seasonality of mushrooms and I then return to the main list of foods in season, I am returned to the top of that list – not to the entry on mushrooms, which I was reading, but to the entry on apples. And so I must scroll *a lot* to find my place in the list. You will have the same problem. It’s a big, simple design flaw. If they fix it, this will be a four- or five-star app.
I wish this was a native app since the list of foods can be extremely long and the inability to tap at the top to scroll to the top is annoying. It would also be really nice to toggle a list view or to sort by fruits / vegetables (yes I know technically fruits are vegetables :)). This app is extremely cumbersome to use when you want to make a shopping list of categories of food you want. Search bar would also be nice since scrolling to find the food can be really annoying when you are at the market.
Really enjoy learning what’s around me that’s in season. So thank you for that! However the app does not seem to work/ function properly on my phone. Nor does the text line up to where it should be. I would continue working out the coding details.
I think this app is a great idea but the way information is shown is cumbersome. It should have an overview calendar option where I can look at a month or several months and see what fruits or vegetables will be in season on a given month. Instead this is a long list of each item that I have to scroll and scroll to view in entirety.
