After playing trope and reflection, I end up using them more than I do my music subscription services. With the ever changing generative reflection, I don’t even have to press a button and I always have some new ambient going. Occasionally I hear a sample repeat from time to time, but never the same music and the moods are always changing. With trope I have to start over the track because it isn’t ever-changing. With reflection you can hear it’s always bringing in new sounds. I have a large ambient collection in my iTunes library but I always end up back to this app. Thank you Brian eno for pushing the boundaries of iPhone
It’s a brilliant app - but really to call it an app is to miss the point, it is an experience of a rare kind, delivered on an iOS device. A contemplative audio visual experience on demand. I rely on the audio during my NYC commute - a pool of calm in a sea of utter chaos. Some evenings l will stream it on my Apple TV- I have a quality screen and sound system so the image / sound becomes a beautiful live artwork- I actually like to keep the volume rather low (if your sound system is up to it) not just below audible, wink wink nudge nudge but low, it’s beautiful. Really.
Simply fantastic. This app is an art piece, generating random musical composition that defies category. Is it ambient music? Certainly not “New Age“ due to the depth of sonic expression and genuine creativity engaged. Great for a bath with candles, a massage therapy session, just taking some time to space out, sleep aid… Virtually unlimited possibilities with this and all of Brian‘s apps. Splendid work, thank you. Worth the expense, not least of all because you can use it for years and years, just as I have with Bloom.
So glad I purchased this. It just keeps generating interesting variations on itself, each one unique in tone, pace, mood, but belonging to the same composition or family of music. All around the world, this app is generating a unique set of variations every day. This is the first album I've ever heard of that goes on indefinitely, is different every time you play it, and even changes with the seasons and time of day. Ha. Coolest thing ever.
This app is a work of art I will not deny that. I am running it on Apple TV 4K. Audio was a little tricky for had to tweak it from only running through TV speakers and not my Apple Homepods. I run my Homepods pairing 2 speakers for stereo playback and sound is only coming out 1. It’s a spacious playback but not as dimensional as hoped, as say playback via headphones. Be nice to upgrade app to have more control of audio stereo output. If anyone knows a fix, please feel free to share.

"REFLECTION is the most recent of my Ambient experiments and represents the most sophisticated of them
so far. My original intention with Ambient music was to make endless music, music that would be there as long as you wanted it to be. I wanted also that this music would unfold differently all the time - ‘like sitting by a river’: it’s always the same river, but it’s always changing. But recordings - whether vinyl, cassette or CD - are limited in length, and replay identically each time you listen to them. So in the past I was limited to making the systems which make the music, but then recording 30 minutes or an hour and releasing that. REFLECTION in its album form - on vinyl or CD - is like this. But the app by which REFLECTION is produced is not restricted: it creates an endless and endlessly changing version of the piece of music.” - Brian Eno
