AMAZING KATAMARI DAMACY

Beautiful Katamari was my childhood. Absolutely loved it. This app is pretty great but needs work... 1) The issue with Marny. The trail of coins seems to always lead me to certain death as I can’t move out of the way fast enough. I try to avoid being on the path as it wears off but still have trouble avoiding hazards as I un-shrink. Maybe make it slow motion for a few seconds as it wears off? Or clear immediate hazards for a second? 2) The game is always the same. There needs to be more randomization, different objects and PLEASE different settings. I will gladly pay for the game to be more like the PS2 games where you’re in a restaurant, farm, candy store, etc. I saw the 1.99 themes but I want entirely different settings, not just decor. 3) Needs actual missions like “roll up sharp things”. Those were fun. 4) The city is really bland compared to everything else. Kind of seems like it was thrown together last minute. More color? 5) More music would be nice. The song is REALLY catchy though! 6) Would love to customize my “cousin”. Choose color/features/accessories and use it in game. Miss those gift boxes on PS2 with the accessories inside. I understand there might be limitations about the “free roam” mentioned in another review. I think the track is good enough and probably much easier to play. I would be willing to spend money on this game if some of the things I mentioned are added. Love love love Katamari! 🌈

I when I was young loved the game on the ps2 probably because I loved to destroy stuff when I was young, I loved hearing the music and seeing the same little man pushing the ball around, but I have only two problems, 1: I started to launch one of my rockets in the middle platform and when I closed the game and then came back it said 0 rubies to launch, so being a person I pressed it, then I played after getting my “free” reward and though nothing of the glitch, but then after reopening the game and after doing the tutorial again, it tried to make me launch a rocket in the first platform, “Ok, guess I launch it” but one thing was wrong, I couldn’t tap anything, o thing worked and still doesn’t work, if it is possible this should really be fixed, as I am writing this I reinstalled the game. 2: What happened to the free roam the game had when it was out for the ps2? I can only remember three of the levels which where some kind candy land, something that I think was a summer camp, and the one that was of a person’s bedroom which is the one level I remember enjoying the most. So if it is also possible, could you guys maybe bring back the free roam? Still though love this game and I will keep it forever because it was part of my childhood! :D

I love this game because it reminds me so much of the series I love but this game just set me off. The rocket function is a little cumbersome. It feels like progress is painstakingly slow because you can only activate one rocket at a time and rubies are so scarce. A lot of games on iOS with this function are more lenient about this kind of thing which keeps it moving and keeps it fun. Also, if you complete a rocket and start one before you OPEN that rocket, you will reset the completed rocket and have no option to open it. That’s a serious glitch for people who don’t know or expect that to be the case. Now let’s move on from the rockets. Missions are the only other way to get rubies and coins. This problem is a bit more personal, but no one I know has this game on their phone or wants to get it, so as a result I can’t progress past the mission which requires Fujio to be used because I can’t access one. This is also a problem. It should NOT be mandatory. Things like that should never be mandatory because it could freeze progress and make someone stop playing. Missions should either be skippable or Fujio should never be a mandatory use as a mission aspect. Other than these minute things, I truly enjoy this game!

I like this game; it’s a good fit for a simple endless runner. However, it still has some major flaws. One problem is the inconsistent framerate. Quite often the game will hitch, which is bad when the game throws many obstacles at you which can end a run. The bigger problem is the amount of ads. It feels like every other thing you do outside of gameplay triggers an ad pop up. One when the game ends I can understand, but do you really need one when I send a rocket for a reward I already have to wait 3 hours for? It even popped one up just for going back to the main menu once. There’s one particular ad that has played half the time that lasts 45 seconds, which kills any momentum you had enjoying the game. Worst of all I had an ad pop up freeze my game once. I’ve only played three times and I’m already thoroughly sick of the amount of ads. I want to like this game more, but I need to be able to play the game more rather than be stopped by an ad for everything I do. Edit: I went back to play more of the game immediately after my review, tried to use an ad to continue after losing a run, and after the ad ended it stopped my run anyway and didn’t let me continue. Lost another star, considering simply uninstalling this mess.

This is an incredibly poorly designed game with less than manageable gameplay mechanics. Everything is set up around forcing micro transactions down your throat, similar to any crappy phone game. If you’re to pick up specific cousins, or even grow in size, it is possible and more than likely that you will be thrown into obstacles, potentially ending your game by loss. The joystick & gyroscope controls are both too weak and lethargic to stay in flow with the speed of the game. My last straw with the game was “watching an ad to continue” (which I don’t like giving companies pointless ad revenue to begin with), just to sit here monotonously for 30 seconds for my game to end regardless. If there was any way to actually build up skill in this game format, I’d understand, but unfortunately all runs play out according to chance. It is highly disappointing to see one of my favorite game’s namesake plastered on cheap piece of plastic, and even more so that they allow this to be any sort of representation of Katamari. It honestly puts a damper on the brand in general, for those actions represent no company I would ever want to support. The best suggestion I can make is to remove it from the market before more Katamari veterans grow disdain for something they love.
