NHS BMI calculator

I got this app because I didn't want to get obsessed, no chance of that with this app! As others have said pity historical data can't be used. Shame one can't see on the graph the amount of time it might take to get to goal at current weight loss rates. Above a bmi of 25 we all seemed to be lumped in one 'obese' pile, surely it's obvious a person coming out of super obese into just obese, or obese into just overweight needs to know that, because it's a big mile stone in this weight loss challenge of a life. The cold stark same message each week that reads 'you're still obese' after spending the entire week doing really well is a bit disheartening I have to say. Yet I'm going to continue because I don't want to get obsessed and I would like to know my bmi is slowly getting lower. Please nhs to kind to us fatties and react to what your app users are saying we need!

My issue is that I have worked hard to shift nearly 3 stone getting my bmi down from 31. That's no mean feat as anyone wanting to use this app will tell you. It's been all hard work and sheer determination. So when entering weights into this app it states "you have lost weight since last time but your bmi is still high". Where is the encouragement in that? "Wow, you're doing well"., "keep going and you'll be there in no time". Some encouragement is needed app developers as right now, you app is just a weight recorder that tell you you're still fat no matter how hard you work. If try a different app if you want to feel motivated. If the NHS really want to tackle obesity then this is not the way forward. Think about what will make people want to lose weight and encourage it. Put yourself in our shoes and see what we need to hear when we excited report that we've lost another pound, another stone even. Until this happens, avoid this app unless you want your soul crushed by a heartless app when you should elated by what you're achieving. Keep up the good work no matter what this app says.

The app does exactly what it's supposed to with no problems, however there are plenty of other apps out there that do the same and more. If you want something very basic, this is for you. I have only two issues with it. Firstly I weigh myself in lbs rather than stone or kg and this app doesn't have that capability for some reason. Secondly, whenever you log a weight with a bmi over the healthy range it tells you you are overweight. That's fine for the first time, but when you've lost a few pounds and you go to log it, it'd be nice to get a "well done" or something instead of basically saying "yeah, you've lost a bit but you're still fat". Way to be encouraging, NHS!

Tracks your weight, is stable, lets you have more than one profile in case someone in your household doesn't have a device of their own. That's where the good ends. The interface is slow to use, with more taps than necessary, and gives you inescapable little homilies along the way. The tracker graph comes in ugly shades of 1970s Neapolitan ice cream and at such a scale that even a weight loss of over 1kg a week, which is about the healthy limit, looks like you're not moving. Hopelessly unmotivating, I ditched it after giving it a week to win me over. Using Weight Diary instead, which only allows one user but has a much nicer interface and a big graph in the paid version. The NHS one really does look designed by a committee.

If you're using this app chances are you're doing so because you've either A) Been recommended to by a doctor Or, in my case B) someone who's trying to track weight and fitness goals. Putting aside that BMI is a poor measurement for the whole picture of health and based on an outdated 2D calculation based upon the square of a persons physique, this app fails the user consistently. For example if you hit the gym and do weights, your weight will increase, you log into this app and it will nag you in the manor of an old school matron. And when that weight counter goes down, it will still nag you, even as you get into the healthy range. Whatever you do is not good enough for this app. The NHS should pull this app and recommend people try other more motivating apps. For the obsess and morbidly obese any weight loss is a victory, this app should show them the support and encouragement worthy of achieving, lest they give up. Instead this is potentially more damaging to the user than not using it. This could have been so much more, so much better and truly inspiring, instead it's not even worth the 30 seconds a day it takes to enter your details. Poor show.
