Each cat has their own unique vocabulary that they use to communicate with their owners consistently when in the same context. For example, a cat can have their own distinct meow for “food” or for “let me out.” This is not necessarily a language, as cats do not share the same meows to communicate the same things with each other, but we can use Machine Learning to interpret an individual cat’s meows and translate that into a human readable language. MeowTalk by Akvelon gives your cat a voice! Using machine learning MeowTalk instantaneously translates your cat’s meows into one of nine general cat intents; these nine intents represent cat moods and states of mind and are as follows: - Happy/Content - Defense - Angry - Attack - Mother Call - Mating Call - In Pain - Resting - Hunting In addition to these nine general intents, each cat also has a unique vocabulary of meows. You can train the MeowTalk app to learn your cat’s unique vocabulary of meows by telling the app what each meow means when your cat makes it. When you give the app 5 to 10 examples of a specific meow for your cat (e.g. “food”, “let me out”) the app can start to recognize that meow when it hears it. The meow recognition is updated once a day so it may take up to 24 hours for the app to start recognizing the new word after you have provided the training information. To train the app to learn a specific meow pick a context where you know with certainty what your cat is trying to say (e.g. at feeding time the cat is saying “food”, at the door the cat is saying “let me out”). Use the app to translate those meows. You will get one of the nine general intents as a translation, select “No, Change it” and then provide the correct translation. Repeat this 5 to 10 times then wait up to 24 hours for the app to update and learn your cat’s new word. User reviews affect conversion to installs and app rating. Featured and helpful reviews are the first to be noticed by users and in case of no response can affect download rate. This is why it is highly recommended to reply to them.
This app stops working and then I have to reinstall it every now and then but when it’s working it’s pretty cool!
The idea is cute, the execution is a little rough, but the app is a new project so I’m sure it will get better. I think there are a couple key improvements that would really help: 1. Being able to delete audio files is a necessity for privacy. Inevitably, some recordings will be mistakes and if the mistake happens to sound like a cat meow, it’s logged and presumably the translation is added to a growing data model. It’s bad for everyone to keep that recording forever. Let users delete recordings. 2. Speaking of incorrect translations, it’s disappointing that they cannot be altered after the modal pop up is closed. I didn’t realize that at first and now I have some incorrectly translated recordings that I cannot delete or fix. 3. My cat is super quiet and squeaky. More often than not her meows do not register in the app. It would be nice to adjust audio sensitivity or at least manually select meow sounds in audio recordings rather than relying on the automatic detection of a meow. Given how new the app is, I wouldn’t be surprised if some or all of these suggestions are already in the timeline, so just consider this review a public vote for them. Thanks for attempting to translate my little creature.
It’s not letting me add my critters. I even tried saving without adding a photo. I keep getting “somethings wrong, not connected”. I know there is connection bc I A. Checked, and B. I have smart bulbs. They turn bright white when you aren’t connected to WiFi. ☹️ Please fix. I wanna save my kitties.
It’s still in development I guess, but the app doesn’t pick up the sound of my cat meowing even when she’s right next to my phone. Guess I can’t contribute to the data! 😕
For the first few days, it was ok. Not very accurate, but I figured after a couple weeks, I’d have built up a vocabulary of phrases. NOPE! Now it doesn’t recognize either cat making any meow sounds at all, and the listening period has shortened for like 7 seconds. As anyone with a cat knows, getting them to meow on command is impossible, and to get the app up and running and correct cat selected in time to capture a meow is difficult as it is. There has been half a dozen times yesterday where one of my cats was being vocal, no other distracting noises in the room, and my phone was less than 8” from them. As soon as they meowed, the app stopped listening. Now it doesn’t recognize anything at all. Great concept, and it did work for the first couple of days intermittently, but now, it’s just taking up space in my phone.
