MathBrush is an iPad and iPhone app that recognizes mathematical expressions as you draw them. It supports variables and functions, not just numbers, and recognizes a wide range of mathematics, including polynomials, integrals, multiple expressions, and matrices. Save your expressions for later, or export them for a document or website. MathBrush exports LaTeX, MathML and image formats, which can be viewed on-screen or shared by email, AirDrop, Messages or any sharing support App available on your device. MathBrush also allows the sharing of a MathBrush sheet (.mbs) by email or AIrDrop to be opened on other devices with the MathBrush App to continue working on the same sheet. You can use MathBrush to manipulate your expressions and obtain results with the help of a Computer Algebra System (CAS). MathBrush uses SAGE as the backend CAS to manipulate the input expression and the results. You can share the results of your manipulation. MathBrush dynamically generates a set of applicable operations based on the type of the expression. Examples of supported operations are factor, expand, differentiate, plot, determinant, eigenvalues, eigenvectors. You can register for a free trial to the manipulation feature with no obligation for subscription. MathBrush allows you to train the recognizer to your handwriting and create a profile. Multiple profiles can be created and at any time one of them can be used as the default. You can edit your profiles at any time by adding more symbols or changing existing ones. MathBrush currently supports the following types of expressions: •Polynomials •Fractions •Square roots •Equations and inequalities •Unary negation •Multiplication (using * or invisible times operator) •Superscripts •Subscripts (must be variables or numbers) •Indefinite and definite integrals •Indefinite and definite sums and series •Matrices •Trigonometric functions: sin, cos, tan, exp, log, and ln. •Single-character variables The free version of MathBrush allows you to enter expressions of up to 25 strokes and to manipulate the expressions with a CAS during the a free trial period. Writing larger expressions and sharing them requires a purchase.
User reviews affect conversion to installs and app rating. Featured and helpful reviews are the first to be noticed by users and in case of no response can affect download rate. This is why it is highly recommended to reply to them.
I find the the recognition to be slow, and extremely inaccurate. I could never get it to recognize any multiplication (using: • * x ; without parentheses), or compound fractions. Also, I would not pay for a "subscription" even if it worked perfectly. But, make it work great, have all features unlocked without a "subscription" or in-app purchase, and I'd pay $.99 - $1.99 for it. Or have it completely unlocked for free, and I'd consider using it as-is, just for writing and not so much recognition.
After a number of tries I've concluded that it's not possible to enter an equal sign. It always is translated as j or sometimes T. This is true even after trying to make a new profile. Also, new purchasers should be made aware that this is not really freed. It costs a dollar if you really want any output, and another dollar if you want to go beyond 20 strokes. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it would be useful if it worked, but don't expect it to be useful in its current form
Does not recognize much writing. The My Script Calculator does a good job recognizing what you write. This app has trouble even with numbers. It took forever before I could get it to recognize the number 8. Could not get it to write the fraction five sixths. It is just not there yet. I will watch for improvements. This is a great idea and much needed.
This app takes for ever to recognize what I write and completely defeats the point not only that they can't even recognize many things that i write even when I calibrate it to my handwriting. Don't waste your time with this app into the developers fix the bugs. Stick to a pencil and paper!!
It is a great torture to make it recognize what you want. You need to go back and correct the mistakes it does all the time. Has no practical use and very limited - does not recognize differential forms for example. The bottom line - don't look for an easy way and learn how to use LaTex.
