I have tried using other meditation apps without much success, and meditation in general without much pleasure. This app has changed my experience with meditation and is the most accessible form of meditation I have found. I have ADHD and always felt that silent meditation was impossible and felt judged in not being able to sit still or clear my mind. These guided meditations that I have access to whenever I chose dispel many of the judgements I encountered in shared meditation spaces. I also deeply appreciate the contextualization of subjects that directly relate to my lived experienc as a queer poc, instead of them being generic and assuming so much. It is necessary to have contextualized media for people of color whose lived experiences are not represented in mainstream meditation apps & spaces. I went from someone who rarely meditated intentionally, to someone who meditates daily with this app. I have recommended it to many others in person and recommend it here as well. Those leaving negative reviews are showing more about their own biases and lack of self-reflection than anything to do with this app.

I am meditating regularly for the first time in my life, thanks to this app. It is incredibly easy to use, and almost every single meditation I’ve listened to has been profoundly healing in some way. It’s helped to create what my therapist calls a “positive feedback loop of healing”, whereby when I feel triggered or upset or simply unsettled, I actually Want to reach for the app and meditate. Let that sink in: even at difficult times, meditation feels easy and good, instead of something I “should” do. Liberate is an amazing resource for those of us who have found it hard to adhere to or use meditation guidelines so often given by white teachers in white-dominated spaces. Thank you for creating such a generous resource that gives so freely. Thank you for helping me connect to the wisdom of my ancestors, and the ancestral wisdom of so many lineages. Meditation is the birthright of people of color; we gave it to the world, and now it is being given back to us 🙏🏼

It’s a bit astounding to realize with what care and generosity this app has been developed and continues to be tended to by Julio! New features are constantly being added, and there is genuine interest in continuing to make this accessible and relevant for POC! I’ve signed up for monthly donations as a way of continuing this absolutely important and relevant work. So much love to all the volunteers and unseen people behind the scenes of this app. 🙏🏽💗

This app could be the missing link for your liberation. I’ve been meditating off an on for some time but this app allows me as a PoC to also consider my meditation practice from a justice and liberation perspective. It centers our experiences with living in an oppressive world and for me it is so liberating. I am so thankful for those who created it. I tell every PoC I know about this app and I think you will too!!

This app is not just some icon you press in your phone to relieve some stress before getting out of bed in the morning, it is a creation to help our kin heal, rebuild and liberate. You see yourself in this, you find yourself and you take in the words of those who have lived to speak wisdom to you through those guided meditations. You will not just meditate, you will be found.
