As a school-based SLP, I have used this app for a couple of months now with my elementary aged learners on the autism spectrum and other social skill needs. I especially like the skill sets of Handling Change and Social Interaction skills! Great graphics and text - I especially like the questions that users can interact with. The best part of the app is the ability to create new skill sets and add your own customized lessons with text, images and questions. There is a lot of flexibility with this app. I would definately get this app if you are an elementary school educator - a great value! - Jill Kuzma, SLP Minneapolis/St. Paul
When I tried the free version I loved it except that I couldn’t edit the lessons I created. The pro version advertises that you can “edit after creation” so I bought it. However, you can only edit the summary, not the questions. This didn’t help me at all and I felt ripped off! You should be able to edit any part of the story. And the video recording will only record your voice for 30 seconds. That’s not long enough to read the summaries. Stick with the free version.
This app is definitely the first of it's kind that I've seen. Tons a great lessons, but still intuitive and easy to use give the number of features. The ability to quickly create and customize your own lesson plans may be the best part. Definitely recommend to educators, parents, and anybody who has a child who may struggle with social skills in their lives.
I gave this app two stars for the existing content. However, I bought the app to make my own social stories. Yes, you can make your own stories, but you only have one chance to enter the information. You can't begin writing a story and then save the draft to finish at a later time. Let's say, for example, you create the new story all in one sitting as the software requires. Then you save the story and read it, only to discover your story contains typos. Can you go back in to the the editing screen and correct those mistakes? No! You either live with the typos or delete the entire story and start again from scratch. Very frustrating and disappointing!
As a professional working on enhancing Social Skills I believe this app is a very specific framework for helping children with ASD and FXS to understand social situations and promote social thinking and problem solving. We will definitely include it in our pilot study about educational apps in family setting since Let's be Social! has a quite comprehensive curriculum and it is family friendly.
