iWriter Pro is quite simply the best app on iOS in regards to distraction free writing. It's iCloud and Dropbox support as well as its document management abilities are fantastic and simple to use. There is no bloat here, just focused execution. I am very much looking forward to the OS X app.
I love this program. It’s a helluva markdown/text editor. I like how it is organized and set up. I use these distraction free programs to work on first drafts and sketch things out and this is a great program for that. I once used Ulysses to do this, but when they went to monthly subscriptions, I left them. Now I have iWriter Pro and am not looking back. It syncs well on iCloud (have not tried Dropbox) which is excellent for me as I am rarely home to work on the desktop and most often write on an iPad Pro. I also like how the background color can change from the glaring white that so often burns the eyes. I use the sun choice. This is an excellent program for what it does and I’m glad I found it.
After trying other similar apps, this one is by far the best one. Definitely worth the 5 STARS!!!!!
UPDATED REVIEW, Sept 28, 2019: Raising my rating to FIVE STARS. I really like the new features in the iPadOS 13 update, especially the new markdown shortcut panel (like Ulysses and iA Writer) and the 4 new focus modes, including paragraph, the one I use most often. When I first installed it, I encountered a couple of bugs, which I reported to support. FASTEST SUPPORT RESPONSE TIME I’VE EVER SEEN FOR ANY APP. I feel confident the bugs will be eliminated post haste. Photos can now be inserted using a shortcut icon on the extra shortcut keyboard row. One can adjust size and alignment of photos using markdown syntax, but I’m hoping shortcuts will be added for these as well. I’m a Wordpress blogger and fiction writer and have used virtually every text editor in the App Store. Again, a great UI, and app seems stable and reliable so far. OLD REVIEW: iWriter Pro sports a great, intuitive UI, and document management system. Quite easy to learn and use. Writing in markdown, however, would profit from the addition of a markdown shortcut keyboard row, including, especially, an “insert image” (from Photos app or Files app) icon, of which facility this app is sorely lacking. An image resize and alignment (left, center, right) would help immensely, as well. Add publishing, and uploading of images, to blog hosts like Wordpress and Medium, and I’d gladly add the FIFTH STAR. Much potential here. I’d like to see custom arranging, merging, appending, prepending of text files—ala Ulysses—and perhaps tagging of entries for quick search operations. Personally, I can do without code blocks but need block quotes, tables, links, including reference, and footnotes. These are already available in iWriter Pro, but could be facilitated with a shortcut row, as mentioned above.
Absolutely refuses to link to Dropbox, though it's linking fine in regular iWriter and in all other apps. I really want the search feature, but without Dropbox it is useless.
