I really enjoyed this game. My wife and I finished in over the course of about 4 days. I’d say the game lasts 3-4 hours. The game is an interactive visual novel, in which you erase scenes or pages of a diary to progress. I loved the characters, the music, the visuals, the settings. The weakest section of the game by far is an oddball sci-fi story that really distracts from the down to earth and realistic “main” plot of the game. The game would have been much better if this had been axed altogether. The other thing that nagged me was the ending. Instead of neatly wrapping up the story and character arcs, the Sci-fi story collides with the main narrative very abruptly and the game ends without clearly explaining what happened. I’m not stupid, but my wife and I were both scratching our heads at the ending trying to make sense of what just happened. Overall if you like a good story, try it out.
I understand that this is a visual novel, but I really dislike its erasing mechanic, and it isn’t clear from looking at screenshots or even video that this is how you advance the story. The story is told as if you’re reviewing a diary and erasing the memories out of it. In each frame you swipe your finger back and forth to reveal the next line of dialog, scene etc. You do this over and over, it never really varies or feels different, and for me this actively distracted from the story they were trying to tell. It’s like reading a comic book but after you finish each page you have to play a floor sweeping mini game to get the next one. And the story they’re telling is all in conversational nuance, quiet character revealing moments, introspection and again - for me the erasing mechanic is a total mismatch. There wasn’t enough happening from scene to scene to make the repetitive erasing feel worth it. The story is told in soft strokes, content to let you hang out with the characters and draw your own conclusions ... it feels more like a collection of someone’s memories than a novel or comic book, and both of those latter mediums don’t require you to erase each page before you get the next. Love this publisher’s other games and I admire the vision but this really missed the mark for me, and I wanted to write a review because the overemphasis on the erasing mechanic wasn’t clear to me before buying.
It states in the very first few lines of the description that it’s AN INTERACTIVE VISUAL NOVEL! NOT A GAME!! How about let’s fully read the entire description before you go and give a negative rating and review to a game/app/novel that doesn’t deserve your negativity! YOU need to go back to school! Pick up a book, and read! Probably a millennial! This is such a beautiful story! I am not even 1/2 way through however I had to say something when I read the negative reviews falsely given to this story! It’s not a game, but a beautifully well executed novel that you must read! It’s NOT about what you can do within the app, it’s what you do with your imagination that can take you into the story! Once I complete the story, I’ll update my review. I can’t give it a higher rating but I can give it a better review!
this game made me cry, made me happy and made cry more. it’s so amazing and touching, the way you uncover everything- it’s read so smoothly and it’s written so beautifully. It felt like I was in the story with them. I can’t express how much this has changed my perspective on things in life. It’s incredible. It just keeps unraveling in every step of the way, I played it non stop. I hope others get to experience the joy of playing this game, it’s so relatable to me, and that’s what has made it change my life too, it’s so comforting. Please buy this game, 10/10
Masterpiece of a game. Cannot express how happy I was to pick up this game, and finish it in 3-4 hours. The entire time I was hooked, wanting more and more. The concept that you erase someone’s memories in a diary is a absolutely crazy new idea of a visual novel, something that’s never been done before. Executed perfectly. The black hole part kinda confused me, after what happened and all, but, the game gets a 5/5.
