The Ultimate I Ching Reader, this program facilitates the use of the I Ching (or the Book of Changes), an ancient Chinese classic text, as an oracle. The process of consulting it in this way involves determining the hexagram by a method of random generation and then reading the text associated with that hexagram.<br><br>The I Ching in itself and the program are localized in English, Italian, French, German and Spanish so that (almost) everyone can easily access the Oracle.<br><br>The program, with an easy and streamlined interface will allow you to consult the Oracle for your important (or not important) decisions when you cannot make your mind.<br>The result can be saved on Facebook for sharing with friends with optional geolocalization. How much you want to share is fully configurable case by case.<br><br>The program will permit also to browse signs and lines as in the original book to allow meditation and lateral thinking.<br><br>This is the Lite version of I Ching 2. Ad supported and with saving disabled.<br><br>In this excerpt from the wonderful book of Douglas Adams "Mostly Harmless", simply substituting 'I Ching' to 'Astrology' and 'coins and signs' to 'stars and planets', you'll get a very good description of what I Ching is.<br>"In I Ching the rules happen to be about coins and signs, but they could be about ducks and drakes for all the difference it would make. It's just a way of thinking about a problem which lets the shape of the problem begin to emerge. The more the rules, the tinier the rules, the more arbitrary they are, the better. It's like throwing a handful of fine graphite dust on a piece of paper to see where the hidden indentations are. It lets you see the words that were written on the piece of paper above it that's now been taken away and hidden. The graphite's not important. It's just the means of revealing their indentations. So you see, I Ching's nothing to do with coins and signs. It's just to do with people thinking about people".<br><br>The fact that the book track his history to more than two thousand years ago and it is one of the most important books of ancient Chinese culture add to the meaning of it as "way to find what you think".<br><br>The program simulates the casting of three coins for six times and then determines the corresponding hexagram.<br>The "Sign" is the resulting hexagram, with the "changing lines", the lines that are changing from one state to the other.<br>The text related to this hexagram will represent "the Present", the actual state of the thing. Once a hexagram is determined, each line has been determined as either changing (old) or unchanging (young).<br>Any line in a hexagram that is old ("changing") adds additional meaning to that hexagram. Those are "the Mutations", the changes that are happening.<br>Taoist philosophy holds that powerful yin will eventually turn to yang (and vice versa), so a new hexagram is formed by transposing each changing yin line with a yang line, and vice versa. Thus, further insight into the process of change is gained by reading the text of this new hexagram and studying it as the result of the current change. This second hexagram is "the Future" and represents the resulting state after the current change.<br>
User reviews affect conversion to installs and app rating. Featured and helpful reviews are the first to be noticed by users and in case of no response can affect download rate. This is why it is highly recommended to reply to them.
This a great app in theory... But u shpd have to cast each line instead of pushing the button once. Also, when u receive a reading, not the entire text found in browser shows. You only get a summary so u must go into browser and look up your hexagrams to read all information. A "show entire entry" button would be nice to make this easier. Also, u should be able to type your question and save results for later look up
Look, I understand that many apps have free versions with fewer features than the pay versions. But this free version had no features at all, does not even have limited usefulness. Basically you open it and it tells you to buy the pay version - that is all it does!!! If the makers don't want to offer a free version, fine. But don't pretend that you are offering a free version when you're not.
I admit that I didn't really care for this one, there are other that I prefer, especially the one called "I Ching Book of Changes" with an icon that looks like wings. You can change the settings in this so you can throw your own. The depth of the interpretations just didn't grab me since I've already got a different app that I like better.
This app used to be excellent. They've had to make some changes, though, because of licensing problems with the translation they were using. These days it is still fun to use, but the translations aren't as helpful and I often find myself needing a website or book to make sense of the results. I do recommend it, though, since it does the casting for you, and since there's always the possibility of a translation upgrade.
this app was almost perfect. Then came the update. Now the browser gives an abbreviated version of the tangrams. A very flimsy version that doesn't provide insight or room for reflection--the point of consulting the I ching. Now the program is nearly useless. I'm vey disappointed. I had loved this program and was grateful to its makers. Now I won't be upgrading because I have lost respect for them. Indeed, I am trying to decide whether I should delete the program altogether.
