I know you didn’t have to do it, but thanks for the free upgrade from v4 to v5. Its especially appreciated since I just bought GoodNotes 4 2 months ago.
I concur this update has taken a few steps backwards, despite small improvements. Cons - No automatic backup to Google Drive - No shortcuts for note taking efficiency on Zoom window - Can no longer highlight with the shape tool! - Huge Bookmark icons! No option for them to show Listed - One finger swipe does not work anymore - Too much animation while going through photos where previously the categories were easily and quickly accessible - Shorter width on notebook/folder titles - Margins are no longer able to input custom px sizes; we can only move through preset indent icons - Inaccurate ballpoint/pen sizes. (ex: 0.5pt was similar to writing in 0.5 lead or ink, but it shows up very thick on GoodNotes5. GoodNotes4 had better, more realistic pen size options) Pros + Can choose custom colors on a wheel without having to find a Hex code + Ability to rotate text/image after lasso + New, beautiful, and functional templates for writing paper and notebook covers For these reasons, I will be sticking with GoodNotes4. GoodNotes is amazing and I’m sure they’ll work out the nuances. I’d love to see multi-note (pulling up two or multiple notebooks on the same screen) capabilities, voice-recording and real-time playback, and ability to recognize more than one language simultaneously (handwriting recognition). If these features were added and/or fixed, I’d jump over to GoodNotes5 in a heartbeat. However, it’s simply too early to make the move. Looking forward to the updates! Thank you for gifting GoodNote4 users with free GoodNotes5 application.
Like some other recent reviews, I too feel like this is a downgrade. - shape tool is restricted now, won’t work with highlighting - can’t sync to Dropbox without adding an email contact - inaccurate pen widths GoodNotes fits in my workflow as a convenient app for marking up PDFs and making the notes very presentable. I import a PDF and use the highlighter tool (with shape tool for clean lines) and add pen or text box notes. Then I save the marked up PDF into Dropbox and access it from other devices. In GoodNotes 5, the shape tool has shifted from a way to create clean lines to a literal “draw a shape” tool which does not aid in making clean markups. Exchanging files via Dropbox has become a hassle when you have to send a notification email every time you try to sync. There are issues with inconsistent pen widths as well as inconsistent text formatting. Overall, GoodNotes 5 has slowed my workflow and feels like a step backwards. I like the shortcuts for 3 colors and pen widths (if only widths were accurate), but overall it’s too much of a step back (especially Dropbox syncing), so I’m sticking with GoodNotes 4 for now. Hopefully the developer listens to feedback and can restore the productivity of this app.
Goodnotes 4 was my absolute favorite iPad pro app. Then I was convinced to upgrade by goodnotes. So far, I don't appear to have been charged, which is good. BUT, this app is by far my least favorite on my iPad now, and I've stopped using it entirely and gone back to 4. It is tremendously glitch, and the interface is drastically different and not in a "better" way. Goodnotes shouldn't just change things just for the sake of change. If you don't have a way to make it better don't change it. Goodnotes 4 still totally rocks, though. Go get that one and not this one.
Since when does an upgrade cost as much as the original app that I just bought 2 weeks ago! It says that if you paid full price that it would be free. Not so!! Don’t upgrade. Save your money. I anticipate that they will expect payment on any future upgrades. Friend had recommended this app before upgrade. What a mistake!
