The Ecosia app lets you browse and search the web – with private browsing, dark mode, and ad blocking features. The big difference? Ecosia uses 100% of its profits for climate action, with at least 80% financing tree-planting projects around the world. Download the Ecosia app and plant your first tree today! **How does it work?** Like other search engines, Ecosia makes money from search ads. But unlike other search engines, Ecosia uses this income to protect the future of our planet. The Ecosia community is planting millions of trees every month across the world's most threatened biodiversity hotspots, simply by searching the web. Join in the action and track your impact with your personal counter! **Privacy, not just promises** We're interested in trees, not your data: we don't create a personal profile of you, we don't sell your data to advertisers, and your searches are always encrypted. **1 search = 1kg of CO2 removed** CO2 neutral is not enough. Thanks to our own solar farms, we’re not just producing enough solar energy to power all of your searches with renewables, but twice as much. Being 200% renewable means every search with Ecosia is crowding out dirty energy from the electricity grid. And thanks to the tree we plant, one Ecosia search removes about 1 kg of CO2 from the air. **Radical transparency** Trust has to be earned. That's why we publish our monthly financial reports on our website. We also signed an irreversible contract that makes it impossible to sell Ecosia or take money out of the company. Download the Ecosia app today and let’s fight climate change together! Find out more about our tree-planting projects, team, and mission on our blog: https://blog.ecosia.org "By making Ecosia your search engine you can actually help the environment one search at a time." – The Guardian "A company, whose whole business model is built around planting trees. To fulfill its goal, the company's customers don't need to do anything more than leisurely browse the web at their convenience." – Forbes “The search for a greener internet takes root.” – CNN
User reviews affect conversion to installs and app rating. Featured and helpful reviews are the first to be noticed by users and in case of no response can affect download rate. This is why it is highly recommended to reply to them.
Ah, good ol' Ecosia. I have had it as my default search engine on my laptop for over a year now, and it works absolutely just as well as any other search engine I've ever had. This is a legit organization, and they have very inspiring updates about the progress they make planting trees in the areas around the world that need it most. They are totally transparent about everything they do, all of their financial and social accountability info is easily available on their website. I couldn't recommended this app more highly-- everyone I know has switched from regular google or bing (even DuckDuckGo) to Ecosia, and it makes me feel way less guilty when I'm bumming around all day on the internet and I find out that at the end of the day, all my usual internet frittering has led to me being able to help these hardworking Ecosia associates realize their goals of planting trees♥️ also, I've never experienced any technical problems with this search engine, ever 🤗
I love the idea of being able to plant trees with simple searches from my phone, however the actual execution could use some work. I’m not fond of the app itself, it keeps somehow losing the pages I last loaded when I go back into the app after being in a different one. Or it doesn’t update the page. As in, I read from my phone, and I’ll be in several chapters then leave the app because someone messaged me, then when I come back it has me several chapters behind. I then have to find which chapter I was on and scroll through to get to where I left off. In that sense the app itself is impractical. It also doesn’t allow separate tabs to be just that - separate. It has tab options but when you leave the new tab to go back to an older one, you can’t go back a page from the original tab, it portals you to the new tab. For research purposes this is unbearably frustrating. It would help if they could fix these things and make it run like a normal search engine, or have a way to add Ecosia as the default browser in safari. Because I would love to see this work, but at the moment it just doesn’t do it for me.
Here is why I, as a visually impaired person, even as much as I want to, can’t use it: Why Apple doesn’t allow for you to choose your custom search engine for Safari in 2020 or doesn’t at least have Ecosia as one of the options alongside Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo boggles me. But I still have to use Safari over this, sadly. The reason being that you can’t make the text bigger like in Safari since the iOS 13 update and if I, as a vision-impaired person, want to be able to read anything, I have to zoom in and scroll right and right and right and then the next sentence below it so down left and left and left and then right and right and so on. But when I make the text as a whole bigger it scrunches all the words to fit on my screen and I just have to scroll down. Listen, I LOOOOOVE Ecosia, and I’ve been using it on my Windows computer since there were 81M trees planted, but this is an ESSENTIAL thing for me on here. I will change my one star-rating to five stars once this issue is addressed. And on a side note, kind of a big deal for me is the “find on page” feature (like ctrl F), where you search for a certain word and see all the times where it was mentioned on the website. Please add that too.
i'm giving you 5 stars because this is honestly an amazing app with an amazing cause. just a couple things that i want to improve? i want the app to be able to support higher quality videos, like higher than 360p. 720p or 1080p would be amazing. i also want there to be less porn? i searched the name of a youtuber and a bunch of nsfw art came up of them that wouldn't normally come up in safari or google. or i searched "video" and a porn website came up in the results, which, again, normally wouldn't happen. i'm okay with porn but it makes me slightly uncomfortable when i'm scrolling through normal images and get blasted with images of penises!!!! i feel like the search results work better and are newer in google or safari than on this app. i'll still use it because we need to save the planet but those are just a few small problems. thank you i love you and your app is amazing
I think this is a solid browser and definitely gets the job done but still isn’t as good as something like safari. When you click into the address bar at the top, the entire link to the site your on doesn’t get highlighted, which makes it annoying to copy/paste links when sending to friends. Also, you have to hit a back button in order to go back, rather than swiping your finger moving right from the side of the screen, like in chrome/safari. There’s just little stuff like that that makes the app worse. That being said, I use it because apple doesn’t let me set ecosia as the default search engine on safari. If that were possible, I’d switch back to safari immediately but continue with the environmental benefits of ecosia. I hope they make some changes!
