Hi this is potentially a brilliant app and a simple and useful way to track your alcohol intake for long term health. But two baffling omissions from the developers mean it’s of limited value. First, you cannot customise the drinks list. Bizarre, because most people just have two or three favourite drinks and they may not accord with the developer’s choice. Here, you have to scroll down a long list of their pre-chosen drinks, and ultimately fail to find yours. So you then have to fudge it by finding a drink that’s similar strength. This is longwinded and would be so much easier if users could simply create their own drinks list. Secondly it doesn’t allow you to compare your intake for more than one month. So the app was great for the first month, but after that I have no idea whether I’m drinking more or less than I was two or three months ago. You’d think that would be a key goal for Drinkaware: long term health. These are two quick fixes they could make and then it would be a genuinely useful health app.

I’ve been using this for over a year now, and have a rough idea of my alcohol consumption. The design builds in various unnecessary limitations though, which mean it’s not as accurate as it could be. Things I’d like to know are units consumed and amount spent. It would be simple if there was a way of inputting type of drink, quantity, percentage and price for each drink you have. Instead, you can choose from a default list (which almost always means the price is wrong), or you can choose from an incredibly limited list of brands. As the beers I drink are rarely on the list (not a brag, there are just very few beers listed!), you always have to choose something with the same or similar percentage. Sometimes this means the percentage is way off, which kind of renders the app pointless. Hence, as I said, I have a rough idea of my intake. Not sure the reason for this manner of input. One reviewer suggested that they were selling the data to the brands listed - but if so, this is next to useless for those companies, given that there are several beers in there I would show up as drinking regularly that I’ve never actually touched. I’ve always carried on using the app because it’s the best of a bad bunch and have always assumed its obvious flaw would be fixed. Although, given that it’s not even formatted for the iPhone 6 screen size yet, perhaps this is a little optimistic.

Having been curious about how much I drink combined with a belief that underestimating the number of units consumed each week is a common error I started using the app. After a few months without any problems the app is now so unstable that it is now unusable. After opening the app is crashes even before you can think about adding some data. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app in an attempt to resolve the problems unfortunately without success. All in all a bit of a shame really; having learnt that even though I'd been underestimating the number of units I was consuming whilst I'm at a safe level it would be nice to continue to monitor this going forward. Whilst this app would have been a great help to achieve this in its current issue that continually crashes it's no help at all.

This app in theory does all I need: compares alcohol intake week on week and month on month, shows results in units or calories, calculates the units for you, great. Also it is simple to use and doesn’t blind you with science. On the downside (for me lol) it does rather nag if you ever over do it. However, you can’t input your own favourite drinks (name, alcohol %), so as mentioned elsewhere, you need to fudge the record by choosing the drink which is the closest equivalent. Plus We could do with an option to input mil not just choose from pub measures. When sharing a bottle with friends at home why not input what you actually drank rather than struggle to calculate the nearest equivalent combination in pub measures? Then there are the bugs: when you log a drink, the item may disappear from the list, so you need to save and go back in to add a second one of the same type; now, after upgrading my iPhone to iOS 13.1, the app crashes every time I go to save my input, without saving, so it is now completely unusable. Please fix this, it could be a great, simple, health improving, app!

Like many other reviewers i also agree that this app should have the ability to input your own drinks. Not an issue as such, so long as you know the strength of your drink and you know its size you can find out how many units the drink has and then find another drink of the same units from the list of pre inputted drinks, not great but it does work. The app however does keep crashing. I thought it was my Iphone 7 being a little out of date, but now im on an iphone XR it still crashes. For monitoring your personal drinking its a very good app, for the lack of ability to input a custom drink or custom unit its not so good. And the fact it does crash too often i rate this app a 2.5/5 stars.
