I started using the DietBet app in February 2019. I’m down 30 lbs. since 1 January, 25 of that list in the program. I appreciate the accountability, community, and competition. Trying to take a full length photo of myself with the scale numbers visible is challenging when you live alone, but every other aspect of DietBet has been easy. I’m very happy with the friendly, helpful customer support personnel. They answer email or messages in the app very quickly. And, they appear to be actual humans— encouraging, upbeat people who actually care about the customer— not programmed machine answers you get from most tech support now. I’m within 3 lbs. of my goal for the end of this game on 28 July. If I keep steady, I’ll easily make it and start on a new game. I’ve struggled with weight for decades. DietBet is the first success I’ve had in a while. To be honest, I don’t know why DietBet is working for me when other programs didn’t. Whatever the program variables are that are helping me to success, I’m going to keep on using this app. First success in years, and I don’t argue with success. I hope it works for you, too.
I have used DietBet many times over the last three years for motivation and support in weight loss. The app is easy to use, helps keep me on track, and the day of reckoning - the weigh out - gives me something to shoot for. Depending on the game you can get recipe ideas, exercise plans - it’s up to you! I’ve found it very inspiring to see people lose weight and change their lives and attitudes and be proud of their healthy eating choices. People make progress and get encouragement and support through the process - whats’s not to love? I’ve been in the program consistently now for six months and have lost nearly 40 pounds and counting. Together with a great weight loss regime (I use Noom) and activity it’s been extremely helpful. I don’t get people who don’t like the game. Although like any game, understanding the rules takes a bit of time, but once you do it’s a snap. I highly recommend it - whether you want to lose a little or a lot - it’s very helpful.
Just completed my first two DietBets! Loved Jenn, the creator of my bets, her ideas, her challenges! Happy with my progress and love the community feel and support! The app was easy to navigate with a little use. App does not allow the use of emoji's which looked strange. I wish there was a link on my profile to see just my activities, posts, likes, and comments. Also, I could find the pictures that I posted but couldn't get them to load right side up, or zoom in on them. I had to scroll for a long time to see my actual posts. Same for the people who liked and commented on my posts and who I liked and commented on. I could not find a particular person's posts by any sort of search that I could find. The only way I could find a person was to go back to my notifications and search for them by name. Wish the app allowed a simpler way to connect with people. I will probably do another DietBet. DietBet helped a lot and I really got into the challenge! It was also great to be able to scroll through this app instead of one of my others when I have downtime.
The new app is more disappointing than a movie without sound, but the company keeps pushing it like we—the ones actually using it—are liking it. In fact, aside from the reliability of the weigh-ins, the changes are for the worst. For starters, the “your games” section is not efficient in anyway. They took a feature that the old app desperately needed and they made it difficult to like by putting too much emphasis on graphics and animation, causing the games to take forever to load. Additionally, the names of the games take up unnecessary space—missing the opportunity to quickly tell you basic game facts like weigh-in days, or beginning and end game dates. You’ll have to wait for your seltzer water to go flat before the game loads to tell you those simple things. Also, the comment section/function is almost useless if you can’t access your notifications in record timing because clicking on it doesn’t take you to your actual post or the replies to your comment—who knows why. Instead, it just brings you to that game’s news feed and you have to hunt for the mystery message... but these are just a few things wrong, you’ll have to check it out to see the rest! Happy dieting!
I am just one week in on my first bet and I’m not sure I’m doing it right! I am finding the app hard to get started with. I wish it had a get started tutorial to walk me through the first weigh in and all the aspects of it. I just saw my message this morning that I needed to resubmit my initial weigh in. I weighed in last week and submitted my photos, but just now I’m understanding that my weigh-in word was supposed to come from the app. I didn’t realize that last week and since I lost 2 pounds since then, I don’t want to start over now! I love the concept of it and I’m only taking away one star because maybe I just didn’t take enough time before I tried to submit my photos to understand the app first. I have organized and ran weight loss contests before for the firemen and their families at our local volunteer fire dept and this would sure make it easier than keeping track and figuring all those weights and percentages on my own. Excited for the next few weeks, and good weight loss progress!
