User reviews affect conversion to installs and app rating. Featured and helpful reviews are the first to be noticed by users and in case of no response can affect download rate. This is why it is highly recommended to reply to them.
I had my daughter install this on her phone. She wrote the Greyhound bus back to her college and is going to pick up an Uber ride back to her dorm. She put both her dad and I down as contacts. And then she tried to see if it would work. It didn’t. None of us were contacted. I thought you might be doing something wrong so I installed it on my phone and tried my husband as a contact… As a contact and nothing worked. When I tap the phone three times he did not get notified. I’ve typed it at the bar where the instructions said to tap and he did not get notified. On the Dr. Phil show it said you could tap anywhere or three times and the person you notify, nobody was notified. We have read the directions over and over and tried messing with various settings on your phone and it still is not working. I am not as concerned for us. I thought this was a nice resource if it worked. However there are many other people who might look to this app as a resource and might not troubleshoot it to see if it works and might rely on it working when they are in a dangerous situation and it doesn’t work. Maybe there’s another way to make it work, but at this point I haven’t found how to do it.
I’m a mother of 4 daughters. One is in college, 2 are in middle school, youngest in 1st grade! I was excited to see this app last night and when I downloaded it said there would be an X in the corner. Well.... No X!!! It also ask for my name and after I put in my name it just went to the news articles! No X... No place to edit you account... No way to set up what contacts you want to contact! I’m sorry but How will that app know what contact to send the non prerecorded message to since there’s no way to make a message! I really was excited to set this app up in my 3 (my 7 year old doesn’t have one) daughters phones but now I guess I’m not since all it does is take up space on their phones! I hope you get this fixed ASAP because I’ve been waiting for an app like this for a very long time and kinda bummed when I realized this doesn’t do anything Dr. Phil said it does!!!👩🏻🦰🙍♀️
Maybe I just got lucky but I’ve had no issues with the app! As someone who was previously a domestic violence victim this app is so so important to me. I wish it existed back when I needed it. I tested out the alert thing and it’s worked every time and got my location correct, which is surprising because the Uber app never even gets it right. You can tell when it sends the message because after you tap three times on the tool bar the white words subtly blink once. I didn’t even catch it the first time I tested it. Also- for those saying you can’t save contacts or anything, after you go through the intro click on the menu icon in the top left corner. Then click on help. And then click on get help. You’re able to add your contacts right there!
If you are a blind person in a domestic abuse situation, you can feel further abused by downloading this app and not being able to use it. Because the app was not coded correctly and the developers really don't care, as a voiceover user on the iPhone, you won't even be able to get past the get started section. Even if you can find someone to help you get past this section, I have very low hopes that the app would even be accessible at all based on what I experienced. I'm glad that I was just thinking of getting this as a back up measure and that I'm not actually in an abusive situation because if I were, this would have brought me down to my lowest point. I deleted it off of my phone, and I feel sorry for the other blind people who are trying to depend on it and who can't use it.
Thanks for creating this app! Great job! I would suggest everyone testing it out to make sure it works so they feel confident. One reviewer said there is no X. I do not believe there is supposed to be. I believe this is the key part of it - so that a (potential) victim does not alert an abuser that the X is being tapped on three times as part of the alert system. This is the reason for my suggestion of testing it out - to make sure everyone is aware of how the app works before a situation arises which hopefully never does. Thank you, Robin McGraw and Dr. Phil for putting domestic violence in the forefront.
