I’ve tried entrainment apps from about half a dozen different companies. They’re all ok, but force you to listen to their music, or their nature sounds grate on you quickly, or you can’t change the volume level of each component. Ananda fixes EVERYTHING. You can enable or disable individual sounds. You’re never forced to listen to something someone else thought was relaxing but you don’t. And every part is always just as loud or quiet as you want it to be. ...and then there’s the INCREDIBLE entrainment! I have found no other app that starts the frequencies and pitches closer to where you are and then slowly shifts you into the state it wants and even (depending on the program) shifts you back. It’s a MASSIVE improvement over the other options I’ve found. Plus, you can easily set the session to be exactly as long or short as you want or have time for. I recommend Ananda to everyone I meet who is looking for something even close to what it provides and I’ve never heard a bad review. You owe it to yourself to snag this one immediately.
I’ve tried other “meditation” apps before and they were okay. But nothing that really did much for me and definitely nothing that kept me intrigued enough to come back. I’ve tried meditation over the years, off and on without much success. My mind always tended to wander too much and I just couldn’t stay interested to continue meditating. As what I would consider an amateur at it, I have to say, I’m really blown away by Ananda. All I can say is, it felt like it transported me to another place and I was completely immersed. My head felt weightless and I had an out of body experience. I don’t know if it has to do with the binaural beats, or the subtle sounds, whatever it is, I didn’t have to “think” about meditating, it sort of just helped me get there without any effort. The greatest thing, is that the hardest thing for me is to shut my mind off, and outside noises off. It helped me do that and I didn’t even see it coming. I’m definitely impressed, and highly recommend this. What a great app. Who’d ever think and app could help you relax!
I use Ananda to improve my focus when I’m trying to perform tasks. Even when medicated I still struggle with adult ADHD. I’ve used the Focus & Concentration setting a lot, and it makes things like journaling go much faster. I’m sure I will be trying out several of the other settings in the near future. The controls are very simple. It did take me a little effort to fully grasp them, though. The help documentation is actually, well, helpful! It explains that whatever sounds you check are sort of woven into your meditation randomly. Pretty awesome. I didn’t care for all the sounds being checked at first. That’s a lot of tapping to uncheck if you don’t want a ton of different sounds. Needs a toggle to check or uncheck all. One thing I’d like to see is the ability to save meditations. I would like to save my length, meditation type, and specific sound selections for easy playback later. Like, I would like to save a 20 minute Focus & Concentration meditation with just nature sounds as “Journaling”. All in all, I like Ananda very much.
Beware. I was using this app earlier in the day and stopped using it around 3-3:30 (but I did not close the app). My phone was plugged in and it was at 100% when the program finished and I stopped using the app. Right now it is 5pm and my battery is drained to 55%. I’ve just looked at my iPhone battery minder in the settings and it shows that this app has been running in the background this whole time! Other apps that I actually opened to use only ate up a much smaller percentage of the battery life. I just left the house and will not be able to recharge my phone tonight. Beware!!!
I like this app but it would be better if it communicated with the iPhone Health app so meditations could be tracked over time. Other apps like Samsara Timer do that task with ease. Also, when you return to app, or after a timed session, it would be better if the timer reset to your previous time instead of zero. Having to input the time length manually every time you use it is tedious and annoying. Most timers remember your last setting. Even the built in timer on the iPhone does that. And it would be an improvement if users could change the overall background color from the green to something else.
