Really great features, when they work right. Love the viewing option for the Ring Doorbell. The real issue I see is that on one device, like my phone, I could have motion detector on, and when I go to my tablet, it would be off. So sometimes I don't know what's on or off. I also would love to see a horizontal only option so I can might a tablet on the wall horizontally. We could also use a night mode for the app, so we can check on things in the night, and not go blind.
All cameras, including doorbell, are always slow to connect. Often delivery people have left (with the package!) before I can see who's at the door. The new UI for access to the timeline is terrible. It looks and feels drastically different than the rest of the app and is very cumbersome. I get the idea, scrolling through the time line and all. Look at Arlo's -- they just list the clips by timestamp. When you're on a smaller device, like a phone, you want clear and simple, quick and easy. That's not the Ring app. And then settings are strewn all over the app. To get to a single camera's video settings you have to drill down a number of layers. And finally, motion zones and "People Only Mode" do absolutely nothing. My camera goes off all night long for small animal activity outside of my zones. The only thing good about this app is that setup is a breeze. But, it's all downhill from there.
Disappointing performance. The app used to work much better than it does now. Almost always get a "having trouble connecting" message now with a black screen. The doorbell and router are practically back to back with only the exterior wall between them. The diagnostics and device health are excellent. The only changes I'm aware of are "app improvement" updates. I'm partially handicapped, so the ring device could be more useful than it currently is.
Great concept, needs work! It will pick up cars going by on the street, but does not always catch people approaching the house. The loading of responding to the notifications is slow. The connection is strong, but I'm told it's a delay in the app. How long the video records is also an issue. It seems to always stop at the important times.
I couldn't be more disappointed with an app and camera. The quality of the camera is good, but the connection and app are terrible. Most of the time, the video feed doesn't load, it usually takes minutes for the live video to show on your phone after receiving a notification. The whole point is to be able to react to someone walking up to your camera, but the time the app loads it's too late.
