ShudderBooks is not a For Profit Company, nor is it a Non-Profit Company. As a Benefit Corporation ShudderBooks can exist for a reason other than Profit. ShudderBooks Specific Benefit is "Illumination".ShudderBooks Corporation, as a Corporate Person (CP) has a deeply held Belief System (BS). SBC as a CP will operate in a manner consistent with it's Deeply Held BS. SBC and by extension CotM believe that Corporations should pay their fair share in taxes. It seems an appropriate way to support the community in which we live. SBC will demonstrate this by displaying it tax records, will will display the tax records and compare them to other corporations' taxes, explaining why there is a difference. SBC and CotM also believe that Religious Establishments Should Pay Equatable Corporate Tax (RESPECT). RESPECT would not be claimed when the money is going to charitable services, and the cost of operation, just on profit (and real estate). That said, all Cults created by Cult of the Month will pay their RESPECT. Because the only law regulating what a religion is or isn't is when you apply for Religious Tax Exempt Status through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Cults will pay unto Caesar what is Caesars. (We may be mad but we know better than to take on overworked abused and disrespected accountants who are armed with an enforceable bureaucracy.)Cult of the Month, which is an app that shares information, histories, and other exciting content from a carefully-curated collection of cults, both real and totally made up. ShudderBooks is a Benefit Corporation incorporated in Minnesota; neither beholden to greedy shareholders, nor bound by byzantine non-profit rules. The purpose of ShudderBooks is Illumination, and ultimately to send the founder on a family road trip around the Moon.The Cult of the Month is more than just an app. It is an organization that consists of all sentient organic beings (SOBs) in the multiverse, both real and imagined. (Welcome to the club. You've been a member your whole lives.) The point is to create an app that will automatically inform members of the new Cult of the Month, which changes on the 23rd of each month. Members will be able to learn all kinds of fun facts about these various cults, and take part in activities. They are strongly encouraged to test out the various aspects of each cult, kick the tires, and incorporate their favorite parts into their own personal religious expression. Mix and match!
